Tamkang University Receives MOE Friendly Campus Award -- Teng-Chiao Lin: I’m Tamkangian
Tamkang University was awarded the 2024 Friendly Campus outstanding school from the Ministry of Education. President Huan-Chao Keh received the award on behalf of the university.

Congratulations! Tamkang University has been awarded the 2024 Friendly Campus Award from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and, along with Kaohsiung Medical University, has been selected as an outstanding school in the category of college and university. At 10 AM, November 19, President Huan-Chao Keh led Vice President for Administrative Affairs Chun-Hung Lin, Secretary General Yu-Pei Ma, Dean of Student Affairs Shih-Jung Wu, Dean of General Affairs Ruey-Shiang Shaw, Director of Military Education and Training Chin-Yen Lai, and several colleagues from the Student Affairs Office to attend the award ceremony held at our Taipei Campus. President Keh received the award on behalf of the university from Teng-Jiao Lin, the Administrative Deputy Minister of Education.

THE Interdisciplinary Rankings: Tamkang University Ranks First Among Non-Medical Private Universities in Taiwan

In 2025, the UK’s Times Higher Education (THE) released its inaugural "Interdisciplinary Science Rankings" on November 21. Tamkang University was ranked 501-600 globally, 12th nationally, 3rd among private universities, and 1st among non-medical private universities, showcasing our strength in interdisciplinary research.

Inaugural University Sustainability Awards: Tamkang University Wins 3 Major Honors, Including Outstanding University
At the inaugural Taiwan University Sustainability Awards, Tamkang University was selected among the "Top 10 Outstanding Universities Award." The award was presented by former Minister of Education Wen-Chung Pan and accepted on behalf of the university by the Academic Vice President and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation, Professor Hui-Huang Hsu.

The inaugural "Taiwan University Sustainability Awards," organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), announced its list of winners on November 10, 2024. Tamkang University won 3 prestigious awards: the "Top 10 Outstanding Universities Award," the "Sustainability Report Gold Award," and the "Sustainability Performance: Environmental Leadership Award." Academic Vice President and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation (SDSI), Professor Hui-Huang Hsu, along with Resilient Governance Planning Section Chief of the Center, Assoc. Prof. Hsiao-Wen Hung, and Energy Conservation and Space Section Chief of the General Affairs Office, Chin-Tung Huang, attended the award ceremony held at the Grand Hotel on November 20 at 2:00 PM. Vice President Hsu represented our university in accepting the awards, presented by former Minister of Education Wen-Chung Pan.

"Understanding humanity itself is crucial. It’s not just about cold, hard academics but about embracing the warmth and spirit of human beings," stated Professor Kazuo Asano, Vice President of Heisei International University (HIU) in Japan. During the Tamkang Clement and Carrie Chair Lecture delivered on November 22 at 10:30 a.m. to the faculty and students of the Department of Global Political Economics at the College of International Affairs, Prof. Asano addressed the heated discussions surrounding AI. He emphasized that higher education should play a vital role in fostering students' observation and listening skills.

iCSC&E: A Showcase of AI+SDGs Innovations – Tamkang Officially Opens National Exam Center Computerized Examination Site

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, the 8th International Conference on Smart Campus and Exhibition (iCSC&E), hosted by Tamkang University and the Excellent Long-Established University Consortium of Taiwan (ELECT), was held on November 21 at 10:00 AM in the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center on the Tamsui campus. Over 370 experts, scholars, and students from within and outside the university participated. Themed “Smart Empowerment, Sustainable Innovation, Advancing Toward Smart Sustainable Campuses” (「智慧賦能，永續創新，邁向智慧永續校園」), the event featured 2 keynote speeches and 12 special forums. By leveraging smart technologies, it aimed to drive educational innovation and campus sustainability, envisioning a blueprint for future smart campuses. The conference also included an unveiling ceremony for the Computerized Examination site of the National Examination Center, marking a new milestone in Tamkang University’s smart campus applications.

Western Sydney University Short-Term Program at Tamkang: Experiencing Taiwan's Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development
8 faculty and students from Western Sydney University, Tamkang University's sister school in Australia, arrived on campus for a 2-week short-term study program.

The "2024 Short-Term Study Program for Western Sydney University (WSU) at Tamkang University," jointly organized by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation, and the College of Engineering, held its opening ceremony on November 25 at 10:30 AM in HC305 of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Hsiao-Chuan Chen, along with Dean of International Affairs Chien-Mu Yeh, Dean of the College of Engineering Tzung-Hang Lee, Chair of the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering Hsiao-Chung Tsai, and Assistant Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering Chieh-Hsun Wu, welcomed Dr. Robert Salama, Academic Advisor at Western Sydney University, and 7 participating students.

Tamkang University and Mapúa University in the Philippines signed an academic exchange and student exchange agreement, officially establishing a sister school partnership. The signing ceremony took place on November 26 at 10:40 AM in HC405 of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, with President Huan-Chao Keh and Mapúa University President Dodjie S. Maestrecampo representing the two universities. Attendees included Vice President for International Affairs Hsiao-Chuan Chen, Dean of the College of Science Tsenge-Lien Shih, Dean of International Affairs Chien-Mu Yeh, Chair of the Department of Mathematics Chih-Chun Tsai, Chair of the Department of Physics Cheng-Hao Chuang, Chair of the Department of Chemistry Chih-Hsin Chen, Chief of the International and Cross-Strait Exchange Section Hsinying AC Chu, Mapúa University’s Director of International Linkages Dr. Delia B. Education and Futures Design Department Faculty and Students Visit Japan for Aging Society Exchange with Mejiro University

7 students from the Department of Education and Futures Design, led by Assistant Professor June S. Chen, visited Tokyo, Japan, from November 7 to 9 for an exchange with Mejiro University's Department of Human Welfare to jointly explore issues related to aging societies. The participating students, ranging from freshmen to juniors, signed up for this valuable opportunity despite the self-funded trip and limited Japanese proficiency, eager to experience cross-cultural exchange.

General Education Micro-Program and Independent Learning Showcase: Students Present Diverse Themes
The students kicked off the event with a traditional opera music performance titled "Drums and Gongs: Beiguan Music by College Students."

The Center for General Education and Core Curriculum hosted the "Knowledge Enhancement, Learning Upgrade: Tamkang General Education Micro-Program and Independent Learning Showcase" to enhance students' competencies in designing and executing learning plans from November 26 to 28. The showcase allowed students to present their course outcomes through an exhibition format. The opening ceremony took place on November 26 at 12:00 PM in the Black Swan Exhibition Hall, attended by Vice President for Administrative Affairs Chun-Hung Lin, Chief Secretary of the Board Wen-Chih Huang, Secretary-General Yu-Pei Ma, Chief Audit Executive Yen-Ling Lin, Dean of the College of International Affairs Cheng-Hao Pau, Dean of Academic Affairs Tzong-Ru Tsai, Dean of Library Sheue-Fang Sung, and over 100 faculty and students.

English Department Hosts AI Forum: Redefining the Roles of Teachers and Translators

The "Forum on the Impact of AI Technology on Foreign Language Teaching," jointly organized by Tamkang University's Department of English and the Taiwan ESP Association (TESPA), and co-hosted by the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures, was held on November 20 at 2 PM in I501. Nearly 30 faculty and students participated. The forum featured keynote speeches by Tunghai University Chair Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature One-Soon Her, National Taiwan University Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature Zhao-Ming Gao, Tamkang University Professor of Japanese Chiu-Kuei Tseng, and Tamkang University Assistant Professor of English Chia-Chien Chen, who explored the philosophical and practical classroom and translation applications of generative AI and its impact on teachers and translators.

Asst. Prof. Hsiao-Tsu Wang 's 2 Academic Papers Published in Leading Materials and Nanotechnology Journals

Assistant Professor Hsiao-Tsu Wang from the Department of Physics has consecutively published 2 academic papers in prestigious high-impact international journals. The first paper, “WS₂ Moiré Superlattices Supporting Au Nanoclusters and Isolated Ru to Boost Hydrogen Production,” was published in the top-tier materials science journal Advanced Materials. The second paper, “Interrogation of 3d Transition Bimetallic Nanocrystal Nucleation and Growth Using In Situ Electron Microscope and Synchrotron X-ray Techniques,” was featured in Nano Letters, one of the most prominent journals in nanotechnology.

In November, Professor Chung-Li Dong from the Department of Physics published 2 papers in international journals. The first paper, "Direct Identification of O-O Bond Formation Through Three-Step Oxidation During Water Splitting by Operando Soft X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy," was featured on the cover of Advanced Science. The second paper, "Energy Storage Chemistry: Atomic and Electronic Fundamental Understanding Insights for High-Performance Supercapacitors," was published in Applied Physics Reviews.

Indonesian Gloria 1 and Gloria 2 High School Faculty and Students Make First Visit to Tamkang
Visiting students experienced the "Magic Mirror Journey" facial fortune-telling feature in the immersive environment of the AI Innovation College and accessed their fortune-telling results using their smartphones.

21 faculty and students from Indonesia's Yayasan Pendidikan Kristen Gloria 1 and Gloria 2 High Schools visited Tamkang University on November 14 at 9 AM. Hosted by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, the visit included a tour of the Artificial Innovative Intelligence (AII) College, a comprehensive seminar, and academic program experiences, aiming to deepen their understanding of the university and increase their interest in pursuing education at Tamkang.
