Tamsui Arts Carnival: TKU USR Project “Tour Banquet” Features Faculty and Students in Costume “Walk the Bridge”

The 2025 Tamsui Arts Carnival took place on the afternoon of September 27 along Tamsui Old Street. As part of the festivities, the USR project “Walking into Tamsui, Facing the World: Promoting Taiwan’s Most Influential Classic Itineraries and Signature Banquets” joined the parade. Under the leadership of the Principal Investigator of the project, Department of History Chair Chi-Lin Li, and co-PI, College of Foreign Languages Dean Yi-Ti Lin, a total of 33 History Department students participated, injecting vibrant artistic energy into the carnival.

International Affairs Office Invites International Students to Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival “at Home”
On October 1, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs held the 2025 International Students Mid-Autumn Cultural Celebration, inviting international students to experience the traditions of the festival.

With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs’ International and Mainland Students Guidance Section held the 2025 International Students Mid-Autumn Cultural Celebration at noon on October 1 in the 10th-floor lobby of the Ching-Sheng Building. Pomelos and 220 mooncakes were prepared for international students to share and experience the warmth of Taiwan’s festive atmosphere.

Holistic Education Center Hosts High Table Dinner for 230 Faculty and Students from 5 Departments to Mark the Start of the New Semester
Students dressed in traditional Saudi Arabian attire joined Academic Vice President Hui-Huang Hsu at the same table to enjoy the festive dinner together.

The Center for Holistic Education held its third High Table Dinner at the Tamsui Campus on October 2, in the Student Activity Center, marking the start of a new semester. This year’s event saw participation from 5 departments — Computer Science and Information Engineering, English, International Tourism Management, Global Politics and Economics, and, for the first time, the English-taught program of the Department of Business Administration — bringing together nearly 230 faculty and students across 48 tables for a grand and elegant evening.

Yu-Hsun Chen and Pan Ke-Yin Shine at Golden Horse Awards —Tamkang Alumni Films Garner 19 Nominations

At the 62nd Golden Horse Awards announced on October 1, Tamkang University alumni once again shone brightly. Yu-Hsun Chen, an alumnus of the Department of Educational Media and Library Sciences (now the Department of Information and Library Science), earned 11 nominations for his film A Foggy Tale (《大濛》), including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. Meanwhile, Ke-Yin Pan, a graduate of the Department of Mass Communication, received 8 major nominations for his film Family Matters (《我家的事》), including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, and Best New Director. Remarkably, Family Matters made history as only the third film in Golden Horse Awards history to have all its principal cast members nominated for performance categories.

30 Graduating Students from the Graduate Institute of Counseling Psychology Pass the National Counseling Psychologist Examination with a 100% Success Rate
In March of this year, alumni returned to campus to guide graduating students preparing for the national counseling psychologist licensing examination. They later took a group photo with Institute Director Kuei-Chieh Chang (center, front row).

The results of the 2025 National Examination for Specialized Professional and Technical Personnel – Counseling Psychologist Category, organized by the Ministry of Examination, were announced on September 23. Tamkang University’s Graduate Institute of Educational Psychology and Counseling once again achieved outstanding success, with 39 students passing the exam. Among the 34 graduating students from the 2024 academic year, 30 took the exam, and all passed, resulting in a 100% passing rate.

4th-Year Architecture Student Ya-Si Tsai to Represent Taiwan in the Asian Contest of Architectural Rookie’s Award

Tamkang University 4th-year student in Architecture, Ya-Si Tsai, won first place in the Taiwan regional finals of the 2025 Asian Contest of Architectural Rookie’s Award held at National Taipei University of Technology on September 20, earning the honor of representing Taiwan in the upcoming Asian Grand Final in Cambodia later this year. Notably, among all finalists, including Tsai, 7 students from Tamkang’s Department of Architecture entered the final round, accounting for over one-fourth of all finalists, which highlights the department’s exceptional student potential and creative strength.

U.S. State Department and AIT Sponsor English Language Fellow at TKU — One-Year Residency to Offer EMI Courses for Faculty and Students
American scholar Jye Smallwood, with over 17 years of teaching experience across more than ten countries, brings a wealth of international expertise and an engaging, dynamic classroom style.

To further advance English-Medium Instruction (EMI), Tamkang University’s Center for English as a Medium of Instruction has successfully applied for and been approved to host a U.S. scholar under the English Language Fellow Program from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026. The program, jointly sponsored and funded by the U.S. Department of State and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), invites American scholar Jye Smallwood to serve as an in-residence fellow, providing EMI consultations for faculty and students as well as conducting academic exchanges.

Promoting Digital Transformation in Traditional Humanities — Prof. Ben-Hang Chang Receives Y.Z. Hsu Outstanding Professor Award

Professor Ben-Hang Chang, from the Department of Chinese and Director of the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and the Calligraphy Research Studio, received the 23rd Y.Z. Hsu Outstanding Professor Award in the Science and Humanities category from the Far Eastern Y.Z. Hsu Foundation. The award ceremony was held on October 13 at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Hotel, Taipei, where Prof. Chang attended with his wife, Mrs. Ai-Chu Tsai. He received the honor from President Mao-Chuan Huang of Asia Eastern University of Science and Technology, witnessed by Tamkang Vice President for Academic Affairs Hui-Huang Hsu, Dean of the College of Engineering and Artificial Innovative Intelligence College Tzung-Hang Lee, and Chair of the Department of Chinese Shan-Pei Yin.
