CHEERS FOR THE 54TH TKU ANNIVERSARY

The 54th TKU Anniversary Celebration was held on 9 P.M., November 8, 2004, at the Student Activity Center. Cheerleaders, rolling and sky-throwing to the rhythm of music, initiated the celebration. “The cheerleaders’ lively and up-lifting spirit activates the TKU Anniversary Celebration,” Founder Clement Chang indicated delightfully.

On the day of Tamkang University’s anniversary, the Sea View Restaurant in the Ching-sheng Building was alive with excitement when over a hundred alumni who, having graduated for fifty, forty, or thirty years, came back from all over the world for a reunion to celebrate the anniversary of their alma mater.

TAMKANG AND LYON 3 AGREE ON COMBINED DEGREE PROGRAM

The former president of Tamkang’s sister school, University of Jean Moulin Lyon 3, France, and current dean of its College of Business, Dr. Gilles Guyot, visited Tamkang last Monday to participate in the anniversary celebrations and to talk with the deans of the Colleges of Business and Management, Shiau Fung-shyung and Chen Ting-ko. They talked about increasing places for combined degree programs between Tamkang and Lyon 3.

TAMKANG TIMES HOSTS FORUMS ON THE FOURTH WAVE

To celebrate the advent of Tamkang’s Fourth Wave era and to promote Tamkang’s idea about higher education, Tamkang Times will be hosting a series of forums on the Fourth Wave. The second forum that featured the topic “Technology Makes Research Empire,” will be held at Chung-ling Hall at 10:00 a.m. this Thursday (Nov. 18); two guest speakers, Dr. Maw-Kuen Wu, Minister of National Science Council (NSC) and Dr. Chau-Chen Mai,former director Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, are invited to participate in the symposium. Both will speak on making Tamkang a research-based university.

TAMKANG DEVELOPS TAIWAN’S FIRST WALKING ROBOT

“It is really cool that teachers in America can talk to us directly and immediately,” one student said. This semester, Dept. of English has a chance to use distance education classroom, on every Tuesday night in the class of English Conversation, during which a video conference will be held for TKU students to talk to foreign teachers face to face.

“DELEGATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN TAIWAN” ACCOMPLISHED ITS MISSION IN EUROPE

The “Delegation of Higher Education in Taiwan,” led by Mr. Lu Mu-lin, Deputy Minister of Education, returned to Taiwan with satisfactory results on Nov. 4th. The delegation was constituted of representatives from ten universities, including National Taiwan University (NTU), National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), National Sun Yat-Sen University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, National Central University, National Taiwan Normal University, Tamkang University, Fu Jen Catholic University, and Ming Chuan University. The representatives of Tamkang University (TKU) are Sung Mei-hua, Dean of College of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and the chair of Dept. of French Tsai Shu-ling. They went to seven key universities in French, Belgium, and Holland with brochures and publicity materials of our school, and received an enthusiastic welcome.

“THE PROSPECT AND RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GEORGE BUSH’S SECOND TERM

George W. Bush won another four years as American President. How is he going to tackle the Cross-Strait Relationship during his new term of office? Directed by the College of International Studies, hosted by Dean Dr. Wan-chin Tai, a “Tamkang Forum” on such a hot issue will start at noon on Nov. 15, in room T701, featuring six scholars specialized in Cross-Strait Relationship and American Government. The topic for this forum will be “The Prospect and Relationship between George Bush’s Second Term and Global Issues.”
