MASTERS PROGRAM IN HIGHER EDUCATION RESEARCH HAS BEEN APPROVED

The Ministry of Education (MOE) approved the establishment of TKU's Master's Program in the research in Higher Education on October 18th. The program, the first of this nature in Taiwan, and will recruit students (10) next semester onwards. It will train students with seminars, internship and research skills to become competent contributors to issues relating to the improvement of Taiwan's high education.

MASTERS OF FUTURES ON FUTURES

More than 30 international scholars have arrived for lectures and presentations organized by the Graduate Institute of Future Studies in commemoration of TKU's 55th founding anniversary. One of them, Dr. Richard Slaughter, the president of the World Futures Studies Federation, will give three lectures, with one of them being broadcasted to two other universities on line through the form of video-conferencing.

JAPANESE ARCHITECT BRINGS NEW IDEAS TO TKU

A renowned Japanese architect, Prof. Mokoto Sei Watanabe, arrived last Tuesday for a week's intensive seminar on "Induction Design" for the second year students of TKU Graduate Institute of Architecture. So far, the students have been working non-stop ever since his arrival, and they feel extremely challenged, as Prof. Watanabe is highly unpredictable in what and how he teaches. He also does not allow students too much down time since he often expects an assignment to be completed overnight. In other words, all students have been doing one assignment per day up 'til now! To meet deadlines, they have to put in an average of 7 to 8 extra hours to complete homework. Furthermore, he is always tight-lipped about the tasks he is about to give, so there is absolutely no way for any student to prepare anything in advance.

SEX TALK UNITED BOTH SIDES OF THE STRAIT

It has not always been easy for students from both sides of the straits to sit down and have a heart to heart talk. Well, last Tuesday (10/25), such an opportunity finally arrived, as 21 students from, Lian Zhou University and Si An University, of China visited TKU to have a discussion session with TKU students on issues relating to premarital sex, depression and a general sense of value. This session was hosted by Dr. Ko Chih-en, the Chair of the Graduate Institute of Educational Psychology and Counseling, while participating TKU students were mainly from his institute, Graduate Institute of Mass Media, and Graduate Institute of China Studies. Chinese students from Mainland came as a team to take part in a study camp organized specifically to promote communication between students of both sides.

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT CONTINUES TO SHINES IN DEBATE CONTEST

Three senior students from the English Department won this year's English Debate Contest last Tuesday (10/25), which awarded them NT$ 3,000 cash and a certificate.

TALK ON TIPS OF LEARNING ENGLISH BY SONGS AND TALKING BOOKS

A talk organized by the Chueh Sheng Library and Chiu-Ru Chiang Publishing Company addressing how to learning English easily by listening to songs and great stories will be held at 6:30 pm on 11/2 and 10:20 am on 11/9 respectively at room 301 in the library.
