TKU HELD SECONDHAND TEXTBOOK SALE

A Secondhand textbook sale, supervised by the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Office of Student Affairs, was held on September 24 at the first floor of the Shao-mo Memorial Natatorium Complex, featuring with around 1000 used-textbooks for students to choose from. Among the nearly 1000 books in the sale, Chinese Department has contributed the largest share of it with 170 books, while the Computer Science and Information Engineering Department has 94, which is a great jump in comparison with previous year record which was only around a dozen.

TKU’S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HOLD ACADEMIC EXCHANGES WITH CHINESE UNIVERSITIES

Tamkang University’s College of Business has engaged in constant cooperation with their counterparts in the Mainland China for years. The two sides have also exchange students for bilateral exchange programs. Recently, for instance, visiting students from China’s Zhejiang University and Xiamen University arrived Tamkang at September 19 and 21 respectively.

EXHIBITION OF TAMKANG OVERSEA SERVICE CORP. IN CAMBODIA

An exhibition to showcase the experience of Tamkang Oversea Service Corp. in Cambodia was held at the Poster Street on September 22, allowing TKU students to share with the affections of these corp. members during their 12-day volunteer tour in the South East Asia country. Tamkang Oversea Service Corp. in Cambodia consists of 16 members, including both TKU students and staff.

AOYAMA GAKUIN UNIVERSITY SETS UP REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE IN TAIWAN

A group of six from Tamkang University’s sister school in Aoyama Gakuin University, Japan, led by President Sadayoshi Ito, arrived at Tamkang’s Taipei Campus on September 21 to hold the inauguration for the Japanese university’s Taiwan representative office. The ceremony was held at three p.m. on Taipei campus’s fifth floor, the Alumni Hall. TKU President Flora Chia-I Chang was also present at the ceremony to congratulate the opening of the Aoyama Gakuin University’s Taipei office, while express the hope that the office will further help to boast the bilateral tie.

DR. WANG CHI-KUNG, HONORARY PROF. OF DEPT. OF ARCHITECTURE, RAISED 1 MILLION TO ESTABLISH SCHOLARSHIP

Dr. Wang Chi-kung, an Honorary Professor of Dept. of Architecture, TKU, has raised 1 million NTD, and along with the 200,000 NTD subsidies given by the school, he established a scholarship with his namesake. The first scholarship awarding ceremony was held at Chung-ling Chung-cheng Hall at 4 p.m. on Sept. 22, in which Dr. Wang said, “Although it is not a big money, I think the spiritual encouragement to students is more important!” Dr. Wang also gave every scholarship winners his latest book as a gift.

BUSINESS ROLE-PLAYING SIMULATION LAB WAS INAUGURATED ON SEPT. 22

Dr. Kao Po-yuan, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Business Role-Playing Simulation Lab on Sept. 22. Dr. Kao indicated that through this Lab, students could learn more effectively by new ways, and he hoped that members of Colleges of Business and Management could make good use of the Lab.

CENTER OF RESOURCES FOR THE BLIND STUDENTS HELD MASSAGE EVENT WITH TSVI
Figure: Center of Resources for the Blind Students held massage event for free, attracting a lot of staff and faculty to experience. Many of them cried out loudly during the massage because heavy workload made them have aching bones and muscles.

Center of Resources for the Blind Students invited 5 teachers and students of Taipei School for the Visually Impaired (TSVI) on Sept. 23 to provide massage service to TKU staff and faculty for free. Many people stole a moment to join the event, and cried out loudly during the massage because of their aching bones and muscles due to heavy workload. Chi Nai-hsun, Director, Dept. of Consulting Affairs, TSVI, indicated that TKU has given a lot of help to TSVI for a long time, so they were very happy to participate in this event, not only showing their appreciation, but also increasing the mutual interaction with TKU. Moreover, their students could get closer to the outside world, too.

59 TKU EXPERIENCED TEACHERS AWARDED BY MOE,ASSOCIATION OF FEMALE FECULTY AND STAFF HELD NOODLE FEAST TO CELEBRATE TEACHER’S DAY

In honor of the hardworking of experienced teachers, MOE has awarded “Price for the Experienced and Distinguished Teacher” for those who have served in the school for ten to forty years. Among the 59 honorary teachers, three teachers who have served for 40 years, Dr. Ku Tai-kuang of Dept. of Chinese, Dr. Huang Hong-chu of Dept. of Information and Library Science, and Dr. Lee Yu-nung of Office of Physical Education will represent to receive the awards in Chungshang Hall, Mt. Yangming on Teacher’s Day. .

DEPT. OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE STARTED 1 PLUS 1 MASTER DEGREE PROGRAM WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

Dept. of International Trade signed contracted of 1 plus 1 master degree program with The University of Queensland, Australia in the year 2008, and sent six TKU students to studies in the sister university; one among them has successfully got double master degrees. Dr. Lin Yi-Nan, Chair of Dept. of International Trade, indicates that with such a program our students can study with international students in noted foreign countries, in which they can nurture global perspective and raise their competitiveness in future career.
