A GRADUATION PARTY FOR FOREIGN AND EXCHANGE STUDENTS WAS HELD ON JUNE 9
For the first time, a graduation party for foreign and exchange students, held by Office of International Exchanges and International Education and TKU VOIS, took place at Student Activity Center on June 9. The party began with the sexy hot dance, followed with a series of great shows, including singing performance, bagpipe performance, Awa Dance, Flamenco dance, ballroom dance, and student-made video clips. The songs performed by two foreign students from Haiti, Etzer S. Emile, a first-year master student of Dept. of Banking and Finance, and Claude Marcus Boereau, a freshman of Dept. of International Trade, fascinated all the audience, and the bagpipe performance by the Chinese freshman Felix Bohlen from Germany, a student of Dept. of Chinese, was also amazing. “I’m glad to participate in the performance. I really enjoy it!” said Claude smilingly.

WU YIN-SHI, A PhD STUDENT OF GIA, WON THE SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY DOUBLE MASTER AND PhD PROGRAM IN EUROPE
After winning a 42,000-Euro (about 1.88 million NTD) scholarship offered by European Commission to study abroad in Universite de Reims, French, and Universitat de Roviral i Virgili, Spain, for double master degree, Wu Yin-shi, a third-year PhD student of Graduate Institute of the Americas (GIA), recommended by his professor in Spain, went to Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, to get a PhD degree in political sciences. Dr. Chen Hsiao-chuan, Director of GIA, indicated that Wu is the first student of GIA who study abroad for double master degrees and double PhD degrees. “He always spares no effort to improve himself and gives any chance for further education his best shot. We are so proud of him,” said Dr. Chen.

GUEST SPEECHES HELP TKU STUDENTS BROADEN THEIR VIEWS
A number of distinguished guests are recently invited to Tamkang University for speeches to share their unique experiences with all TKU students. The first of the list of guests was Vice Minister of MOE, Lin Tsong-ming, who held a speech in a College of Educational initiated course “Issues on Recent Development in University Education” on June 8. Lin’s speech focuses on important issues, such as Taiwan’s dropping birth rate, how to build brand image of colleges and universities, globalization, sustainable operation of educational facilities, as well as the most recent cross-strait issues. The speech was joined by a total of 42 PhD students. One of the participants, Chieh Wei-heng, a military instructor in Military Education and Training, said he has learned a lot with Lin’s speech. “Lin is an expert in education. I have learned from his experience that the TKU has to continue to improve itself in order to advance.”
