The Overseas Chinese Spring Festival Banquet

On the 14th of January, TKU held an Overseas Chinese Spring Festival Banquet. The banquet took place at a restaurant near the TKU Tamsui Campus, and was attended by a total of over 260 people, including overseas Chinese students studying at Tamkang, TKU faculty and staff, and members of various overseas Chinese student committees. Among the attendees was the President of TKU Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, the TKU Vice President for Administrative Affairs Dr. Po-yuan Kao, the Secretary of the Overseas Compatriot Education Committee Wu Rui-mou, and Kuo Da-wen, an adviser from the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission. In her opening speech, President Chang commented on the vast number of people in attendance which, she added, “made for a very lively atmosphere”. Mr. Kuo, on the other hand, expressed his hope that each of TKU’s overseas Chinese students – regardless of where they eventually develop their careers –reserve a permanent place in their hearts for Taiwan.

On the 14th of January, Tamkang University held a TKU Faculty Farewell Tea Party, a tribute to TKU teachers retiring at the end of this semester. The seven TKU teachers and employees set to retire were invited as guests of honor. They include Prof. Huang Fan-guang, from the Department of History; Assoc. Prof. Liu Kwok-on from the Department of Physics; Prof. Ye-fun from the Department of Electrical Engineering; Prof. Gai Che-sheng from the TKU Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership; the Director of the Division of Continuing Education, Chiou Jwu-lin; and Lu Chin-chih, a staff member from the Office of Academic Affairs’ Registration Section.

On the 13th of January at 6pm, the TKU College of Management held an end-of-Chinese Year party. At the event were over 150 teachers, staff, and department alumni.

TKU Students Take First Prize in Marketing Competition

Recently, a group of third year TKU students from the Department of Mass Communication entered an annual marketing competition organized by the Taiwan Alliance for Advancement of Youth Rights and Welfare (Taiwan Youth Alliance, in short). They came first, and the slogan they came up with is set to be used in this year’s Taiwan Youth Alliance Walkathon Fundraiser.

Showing Visitors the Beauty of Taiwan

Not long ago, an extensive group of visitors touched down on Taiwanese soil. These visitors, 132 in total, are members of a youth group established by the (Taiwan) Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission. They come from countries across the globe, including Brazil, Panama, Paraguay, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and Costa Rica, to name just a few.

Taiwan’s First Ever International Long-distance Master’s Program

Last month, Tamkang University was granted permission to establish Taiwan’s first ever international long-distance master’s degree program, the Executive Master's Program in Asia Studies. Scheduled to begin in the 2011 academic year, the program will take students from countries in Central and South America that have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, such as Guatemala, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and others.

An Action-packed Chinese New Year Gala

Chinese New Year is almost upon us. To celebrate the New Year and usher in the upcoming winter break, Tamkang University held a Chinese New Year End-of-Year Gala. On the afternoon of Friday, January 21st, as rain sprinkled across the TKU Tamsui Campus, TKU faculty and staff poured into the Student Activity Center with cheerful anticipation.
