A Conference on Information Science and Technology

The TKU Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering last week held the 2011 Cross-Strait Conference on Information Science and Technology and iCube. The annual conference was attended by several high profile guests, such as former TKU President and Member of the ROC Control Yuan, Dr. Louis R. Chao; Academician and internationally renowned computer scientist, Dr. Chung Laung Liu; University of Pittsburgh professor, Dr. Shi-Kuo Chang; and Research Professor at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Dr. Jiang Qingshan. It comprised almost 20 lectures and speeches by experts in related fields and attracted almost 100 attendees.

TKU Helps Hold the 2011 PiL

In this year’s Microsoft Partners in Learning Competition, Tamkang’s Department of Educational Technology played an essential role. It teamed up with Microsoft Taiwan to plan, organize and then hold the annual contest. This year, PiL attracted entrants from the ranks of elementary, junior and senior high school teachers and intern teachers, with a total of 82 entries.

A Visit from an Alumna in America

On December 7, the current President of the Alumni Association of South California, Ms. Ruth Yen, along with the Executive Director of the TKU Office of Alumni Services and Resource Development, Dr. Perng Chun-Young, visited the President of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, and the Vice-President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Po-yuan Kao.

The International Office “Moves Home”

The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs recently relocated to the 10th floor of the Ching Sheng Memorial Building, Tamsui Campus.

Renowned Scholars at TKU

On December 8 and 9, the TKU Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering held a major annual conference: the Cross-Straight Conference on Information Science and Technology and iCube.

Celebrating 50 Years of Architectural Excellence

This year marks the Development of Architecture’s 50th year since inception. To commemorate, the Department has been particularly active, and on the 17th December is set to jointly hold the 14th Cross-Strait Architectural Symposium. It is also holding an ongoing architectural workshop with the theme “Future City, Future Life”. The workshop consists of students and teachers from both Taiwan and Mainland China, and will involve teamwork between students from various schools.

The EU Soft Power Symposium

On December 2, the TKU Graduate Institute of European Studies held the EU Soft Power Symposium. The symposium invited 14 scholars from various academic fields to present dissertations on “soft power”.

The ‘Triangular Matrix’

TKU Department of Civil Engineering PhD candidate Chen Hong-ming, who previously earned first place in the Z Joint Study Program, recently won another prize: the 2011 Lite-On Award Best Practical Application Award. He received NT$30,000 for his efforts.
