A Survey on Course Selection

Tamkang Times recently conducted a survey to gain student feedback on the process of selecting courses. Results showed that many fourth year students worried that they would not gain signed approval to join the courses they need to take and therefore graduate later than expected.

Meiji University Comes to Tamkang to Say “Thanks”

To celebrate its 130th anniversary and express gratitude to Tamkang for providing much-needed assistance in the wake of the 311 Japan Earthquake, Meiji University recently organized for its cub scouts to visit the TKU Tamsui Campus – the only university visit in their several-day itinerary.

A Lecture by Lai Ying-chao

On March 1, the former President of the Judicial Yuan, Dr. Lai Ying-chao came to TKU’s Tamsui Campus to deliver a lecture.

2012 Conference on Asian Human Rights

The TKU Graduate Institute of Asian Studies and TKU Center for Japan Studies recently held the 2012 Conference on Asian Human Rights. Held at the Ching Sheng International Conference Hall, on Feb 24, the conference marked two years since the signing, by President Ma Ying-jeou, of two important covenants (the ICCPR and ICESCR) relating to human rights. To commemorate two years since the historical signing, a number of leading human rights scholars from Japan and Korea were also invited to be present at the conference.

Baika Women’s University Visits Tamkang

On February 24, a group of over 20 teachers and students form Baika Women’s University, Japan, visited the TKU Tamsui Campus. Their purpose: to learn more about Chinese culture and study Chinese calligraphy.

Growth in NSC Research Grant Applications

According to figures released by the Office of Research and Development, as of Feb. 13, 2012, the number of National Science Council (NSC) research grant proposals applied for by TKU faculty over the last five academic years is as follows: 485 (2008), 508 (2009), 551 (2010), 537 (2011) and 574 (2012). With the exception of 2011, the figure has grown annually by an average of 6%.

A New Digital Endeavor Starts at Tamkang

In an online endeavor unique among Taiwanese universities, Tamkang University has initiated an Online Executive Master’s Program in Asian Studies. Given the demographics of the students and the scope of languages involved, the master’s program is the first of its kind in Taiwan. It has drawn an enrollment of 15 students from eight countries in Central and South America, including Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Paraguay.
