The 2013 International New Taipei City Environmental Art Festival Takes Place

【Reported by Jia-fu Gao, Tamkang Times】On November 12th the “2013 International New Taipei City Environmental Art Festival” took place. The old street of Tamsui was filled with enthusiastic spectators as they watched a displayed created by over 50 different groups of environmental protection and services.

【Reported by Yu-xuan Guo, Tamkang Times】On November 15th Lanyang Campus held the “2013 Freshman High Table Banquet.” In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Academic Affairs Gwo-hsing Yu, Vice President of International Affairs Wan-chin Tai, Dean of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Dean of the Office of General Affairs, Shiaw-Shyan Luo along with 300 teachers and students.

21 Representatives From Canton’s Higher Learning Institutes Meet With TKU to Discuss Environmental Protection

【Reported by Tian-ran Xia, Tamkang Times】On November 13th in the afternoon, the Hall of Education held a meeting with Canton’s Chun Man Chu and 21 members of Cantonese higher learning Institutes. They were welcomed and greeted by personnel of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs to sight see the beautiful campus of Tamkang University. They then attended a discussion hosted by the President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai. Man Chu Chun stated, “It’s my hope to gain an understanding of the governance methods of Taiwanese higher learning institutes in regards of concepts of marketing and environmental protection in order to imitate it to create a more efficient model for ourselves.” The members of both universities then openly discussed environmental protection methods and projects.

The Annual Academic and Administration Meeting Discusses TKU’s International Standing

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】This semester on November 19th, the annual academic and administration modification conference took place in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. This year the topic was Mixed Development and Raising the International Standing of the University. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, three university vice presidents, directors and secretaries.

15 of Tamkang University’s Scout Leaders are Recognized for Their Services

【Tamkang Times】The General Association of the Scouts of China invited 15 scout leaders to participate in the Asia-Pacific Youth Conference on November 15th. TKU stands alone as the only university to be invited. They had the opportunity to meet President Ma Ying Jiu and attended an exquisite banquet at RegaLees Hotel. Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, attended the conference to speak on behalf of TKU’s scout program and other achievements. He also shared information of their participation in the New Taipei City International Art Project.

【Reported by Rong-han Ye, Tamkang Times】An assembly was held in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall presenting Tamkang University with the Real Touch App. This App was donated by an alumni group from the Department of Electrical Engineering currently working with Real Touch Corporation. Students from the Department of Engineering and Communication, Computer Science and Information Engineering worked together for testing the app in order to give suggestions. Associate General Manager, Jian-xu Wu, stated, “Before students would come rushing in the classroom because of a misunderstanding in their test time. This app will put an end to that, giving students exact test times all year.”

【Reported by Hong-jia Gu, Tamkang Times】On November 14th six visitors came to TKU from sister University Tunku Abdul Rahman including Chief of the board, Tun Tan Siew Sin, University President and Supervisor, Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, Vice President and Associate Professor Lee Sze Wei, Dean of the College of Science, Lim Tuck Meng, and Dean of the College of Engineering, Robert Gilmore. The guest were given a tour of the campus buildings and many facilities. Dr. Chuah Hean Teik stated, “This is my first time seeing such a lovely campus. I think the robotics center is incredibly interesting.

The College of Foreign Languages and Literature Creates Translation Center

【Reported by Ya-ting Li, Jing-ya Su, Tamkang Times】The College of Foreign Languages and Literature established a “Translation Center,” that will officially begin at the start of the school year. Dean of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Hsi-deh Wu, stated, “This project is designed to showcase the specialty of Tamkang University regarding foreign language resources by sharing research and increasing academic cooperation.”
