A Forum is Opened to Discuss the Intense Situation in Ukraine

【Reported by Ya-xuan Ji, Tamkang Times】The College of International Studies held a forum titled, “A Look Into the Tense Situation Between Ukraine and Russia.” There were 30 members in attendance including Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, Dean of the Graduate Institute of European Studies, Chiu-ching Kuo, Former Taiwanese and Russian Ambassador, Su-yih Chiang, Professor from the Graduate Department of European Studies, Alexander Pisarev, Assistant Professor of the Graduate Department of European Studies, Tsui Lin and Assistant Professor from the Department of Global Politics and Economics, Chin-mo Cheng.

【Reported by Jia-wen Lin, Tamkang Times】The College of International Studies hosted “The First Annual TKU United Nations Simulation” on March 6th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. This year’s theme revolved around the crisis in Syria and 40 graduate students represented various countries in an exercise on diplomatic procedures. At 9:30 Professor of Sun-yet Sun University, Wen-cheng Lin, officially began the discussion. Everyone was welcome to participate and observe the United Nations Simulation.

E-learning Executive Masters Program Enrolls New Students

【Reported by Jia-yun Cai, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s recently designed “E-learning Executive Masters Program in Asian Studies” has begun its third year, accepting 20 new students and 7 returning students. From March 9th until the 15th they will be receiving their courses while experiencing the culture of Taiwan. This year the program has attracted many important figures including Minister of Foreign Affairs from Guatemala, Mayor from Tela City in Honduras and professor from sister school Universidad de Panama. The program is continually receiving calls from many different applicants in various areas.

【Reported by Yan-ling Chen, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s Gender Equality Education Committee, Female Faculty Alliance, Employee Welfare Committee held the 2014 “International Women’s Day” in the Chung-Ling Memorial Hall on March 4th. This year’s discussion was lead by President Flora Chia-I Chang and revolved around the book, “Lean In” written by Sheryl Sandberg. This book focuses on women in the work field and how to overcome challenges they may encounter on the way. In attendance was Chairperson of the Female Faculty Alliance and Dean of the Office of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, Dean of Academic Affairs, Chih-en Ko, Office of the Dean, Sheue-fang Song, Executive Director of EMBA, Chiang-feng Lin, Director of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Hui-Huang Hsu, Executive Secretary of the Gender Equality Committee, Wen-Chih Huang, and 160 members of the university faculty.

TKU is Listed Among the Top 200 Universities in the World

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】England’s higher learning survey organization known as Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), announced the results that listed the 200 leading university courses in the world, placing Tamkang University between 151-200. This is the first time TKU has been listed in QS, which reviewed 30 subjects from over 3,000 universities. The subjects that were evaluated include Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Science and Medicine, Natural Science, and Social Science. Among the 200 leading university courses, 16 Taiwanese universities were selected. There were three areas of criteria that needed to be met before consideration in this global university index: academic reputation, outstanding review scores and thesis or dissertations.

President Flora Chia-I Chang will attend the banquet held in Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium with President of the Worldwide Federation of Alumni Association, Mr. Loo Soon to introduce “Carnival Games” which will be followed by the presenting of the “Certificate of Appreciation for Donations from 30-50 Thousand”, “Tamkang University Alumni Association Award of Excellence”, “The Worldwide Federation Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni Award”.
