The College of Engineering Visited Three Japanese Universities

【Reported by Xue-yi Wu】On the 3rd of March, Dean of the College of Engineering, Chi-dong Ho, lead an expedition including Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Wei-tsong Lee, Dean of the Intelligent Automation and Robotics Center, Ching-chang Wong and 2 professors from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Yang-han Lee and Jen-Shiun Chiang, to visit three universities in Japan: The University of Electro-Communications, Tohoku University, and Kumamoto National College of Technology for an academic exchange.

【Reported by An-jia Chen】On March 12th Vice President of Fujian Normal University Wending Wang, brought five members of the College of Liberal Arts to visit Tamkang University for the “2014 Innovative Academic Cross-Strait Conference.” Vice President Wending Wu hosted the conference with Vice President of Administration, Po-yuan Kao as they introduced the Cross-Strait Innovative Curriculum Cooperation Forum to various professors responsible for designing and creating course curriculums. The two university representatives discussed working together in the near future to design academic programs.

【Reported by Bo-xian Lu, Tamkang Times】The Better Chemistry Better Life Co. has made a very generous donation of 1,400,000 NT dollars toward the Department of Chemistry’s mobile educational system. On March 12th President of the Board of Trustees of Better Chemistry Better Life, Ding-Chuan Chen, President Flora-Chia-I Chang and Vice President of Administration, Wan-chin Tai and various department leaders gathered to cut the ribbon for the ceremony of this tremendous donation.

The 135th TKU Administration Conference Takes

【Reported by Jing-ya Su, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s 135th Administration Conference took place in Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on March 7th. President Flora Chia-I Chang covered three main points: The relationships of the alumni in every department that should be strengthened for further university progress, the creation of more intern programs to give students a chance to explore the work force firsthand, and the university must continue to establish international exchange programs. Before the meeting began President Chang awarded Specialized Professor from the Department of Educational Technology, Hsin-yih Shyu, with a 50 thousand NT grant for the participation in the 18th Annual International ICT Innovative Services Contest.

【Reported by Xue-yi Wu, Tamkang Times】The Chemistry Department held the 9th Annual Chung-ling Chemistry Competition, attracting 600 students made up of 206 teams. At the end of the exciting competition Jianguo High School and Chu-Lin Private Elementary School were awarded 30,000 NT for first place, National Experimental High School was awarded 20,000 NT for second place, and Jianguo High School was awarded 10,000 NT for third place.

Executive Director of the Student Activity Center, Chia-cheng Yu stated, “What the students have organized on their own certainly deserves praise. They have pulled this whole thing together by themselves to improve their grades.”

An Academic Forum Focused On Curriculum Change

On March 23rd in the Ching-sheng Building the College of Education and New Taipei City’s Ministry of Education will hold a forum titled, “The Turning Point in Academics.” They will be discussing new methods of curriculum design and have invited world renowned Japanese Professor Manabu Satou to give a lecture on the topic.

Participants included professors, administrators, students and even President Flora Chia-I Chang. Altogether there were over a thousand participants in this activity held at the Sanchong District Park.
