TKU Holds Spring Sale For Charity

【Reported by Xue-yi Wu, Yu-xuan Guo, Tamkang Times】The 2014 Northern University Alliance began promoting the spring season fundraising sale for charity that can be seen on all of the posters throughout the streets. Vice President of Administration, Po-yuan Kao, and Dean of the College of Business and Management, Chien-liang Chiu showed up at the event to give their support. Everyday at noon spectators could watch exciting performances from student organizations and popular artists including Peter Pan, Hung Jen Hsiao, Yui, and Yi Hsin Liu. All of the music and activities were designed to attract as many people as possible to participate in the charity sale.

The College of Engineering is Honored with TQM Award

【Reported by Ya-xuan Ji, Tamkang Times】On March 21st Tamkang University’s Total Quality Management Conference took place in the Student Activity Center, with a theme of increasing the coherence of university organizations by establishing innovative high-quality services. In attendance there were 600 faculty members including the vice presidents and President Flora Chia-I Chang. Professor from Yuan Ze University, Paul S.C. Hsu and Director of the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Ying-jing Xu, were invited to give a lecture.

TKU’s Baseball and Soccer Team Make it To the Playoffs

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s baseball and soccer team competed in the 2013 National Junior College Sports Competition and received excellent results. The baseball team first defeated Aletheia University and Feng Chia University. Then they lost to Tsing Hua University by a small margin in the playoffs. The soccer team tied their ranking with last year, holding 7th place.

【Reported by Jia-wen Lin, Yu-xuan Guo, Yi-feng Lu, Wen-yuan Zheng, An-jia Chen, Yan-ling Chen, Bo-xian Lu, Ya-xuan Ji, Hui-ru Li, Xue-yi Wu, Tamkang Times】On March 15th, 550 Alumni gathered together for the Spring Alumni Homecoming Banquet. It was a time for alumni to share ideas and experiences as well as present alumni with awards of excellence contributions and donations. President Flora Chia-I Chang began the event with an opening speech as she expressed her gratitude to each alumni for their hard work over the years. She expressed, “Because of everyone’s wonderful contributions and diligent work in your careers, we have been listed in Cheers Magazine as the most desirable university graduates for employment for the last 17 years.” She also expressed her thanks for all of the donations that have helped with the development with Tamkang University.

Nanyang Technological University Brings 64 Guests to TKU

Professor from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Low Sow Kuan, came to Tamkang University for a visit on March 19th and brought 63 teachers and students to observe the Intelligent Automation and Robotics Center, Department of Aerospace Engineering, and the Chinese Palace-style Classrooms. Professor Low Sow Kuan stated, “Our students are from different places all over the world. We hope to be able to raise their horizons by showing them other countries and letting them prepare for the future.

Video Conference With French Ambassador Michel Ching-long Lu

【Reported by Ya-xuan Ji, Tamkang Times】The Department of French invited Tamkang University Alumni and French Ambassador, Michel Ching-long Lu, to give a video lecture on, “Where is my competitive ability?” There were over 80 students in attendance as Michel Ching-long Lu used French language to illustrate this idea through a puppet show via video conference. The puppet show filled the room with laughter and afterwards students were able to have an enthusiastic interaction, putting forth all of their questions and concerns.

【Reported by Xue-yi Wu, Tamkang Times】Since 1980 the Awakening Foundation has promoted Taiwanese Women’s Movement and after the 90’s was successful in passing many laws related to women’s rights. In Taiwan women’s rights and gender equality have been a controversial issue for the last 30 years. All of the changes in women’s rights have been systematically preserved in the Awakening Foundation’s digital archive database titled, “Digital Archive for Women’s Movements.” The Chueh-sheng Memorial Library has accepted the responsibility of preserving hard copies of these cases so that the history of Taiwanese women’s rights can be seen and heard by the public.

President Chang Attends Asia-Pacific Association for International Education in Korea

【Tamkang Times】From March 17th to the 20th, President Flora Chia-I Chang attended the annual Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) in Korea. In attendance at this forum were 14 university presidents from all over Asia and Europe as well as around 70 vice presidents. President Chang began the event with a few words of introduction, which received special attention from Kyung Hee University. Lectures were given by university presidents of Chung-Ang University, Sogang University, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. President Chang was the only Taiwanese university president invited to attend the conference.
