【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Jin-yu Cai, Qian-jing Chen, Yi-mei Chen, Tamkang Times】Last week there five different discussions held at TKU pertaining to the Chinese trade agreement issue. April 29th the Graduate Instituted of Future Studies invited Adjunct Associate Professor of Law from the Department of Law, Kuo-chang Huang, to give lecture on the members of the parliament. A great amount of people gathered for the event and there were also 3000 online viewers. Kuo-chang Huang stated, “The democratic system of Taiwan lacks transparency which neglects the views and rights of the people in the community. This trade incident is a direct result of poor communication of government policies and the general public.

【Reported by Ying-tian Fan, Tamkang Times】To break out of the same old routine for the second semester student orientation, the Office of Academic Affairs held the “2014 Spring Season Banquet” on a pasture. Hundreds of students, teachers and administrators came together on the pasture as a reminder of the early days of Tamkang University. TKU began it’s development on a pasture and now decades later, the humble history has been completely forgotten about. But still today the campus is surrounded by forestry, which has become the trademark for the lifestyle on TKU. There were also many student organizations invited to grace the audience with a variety of musical performances including singing, dancing and even guitar.

He was accompanied by Director of the Department of Information and Library Science, Mei-yu Wang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Chinese, Ming-hao Ma, Assistant Professor of the Department of History, Yueh Wang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mass Communication, Ming-yu Yang and Lecturer from the Department of Mass Communication, Hsian-fu Lu. Tamkang School Strategic Studies 2014 Annual Events Conference

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】Last month from April 25th to the 27th, the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies held the “Tamkang School Strategic Studies 2014 Annual Events” conference and attracted more than 150 individuals. The Curator of Academia Historia, Fang-Sang Lu and Supervisor Huang-hsiung Huang, made an appearance at the event to present and appreciate the many writings, articles and documents of Hsien-chung Niu for this historical ceremony marking his burial.

President Chang Travels to South America To Meet With the University of Chile and National University Asuncion

【Reported by Min-Hua Wu, Tamkang Times】President Flora Chia-I Chang travelled to South America from April 20th to April 30th to visit universities in Chile and the Republic of Paraguay. She was accompanied by Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Hsi-deh Wu, Dean of the Office of Foreign Affairs, Pei-Wha Chilee, Dean from the Graduate Institute of the Americas, Hsiao-chuan Chen, Dean of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hui-huang Hsu, and Professor of the Department of Spanish, Kwo-wei Kung. President Chang expressed, “In addition to cultivating and strengthening the exchange relationship between Tamkang University and University of Chile, we also signed an an agreement with the National University of Asuncion in Paraguay, making them an official sister school of TKU. The purpose of this trip was to deepen the connection between our countries.”
