The Student Club Exhibition Makes a Big Impression

【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Tamkang Times】On September 15th the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section held the “Student Clubs Enrollment Exhibition Wild Welcoming Night”, which had 19 different groups showcasing for the attention of almost a thousand students. This year 8 different groups received awards of excellence including the Japanese Mah-jong Research Team, Tea and Art Club, Tennis Club, etc. The event began with a performance by the Dan Hai Same Boat Club, followed by a moving musical experience with the Western Music Club.

The Haruki Murakami Research Center is Officially Open

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】In 2012 Tamkang University founded the Japanese Department’s Haruki Murakami Research Room. This year it established Taiwan’s first Haruki Murakami Research Center, holding it’s official opening ceremony on September 22nd. The opening event was hosted by President Flora Chia-I Chang and she invited renowned American Literature translator and former professor of Tokyo University, Motoyuki Shibata, to give a lecture contrasting Haruki Murakami and American Literature.

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】On September 17th students cast their votes for the 20th annual Student Association Elections. Due to certain controversial issues regarding legality of the vote, the Office of Student Affairs took the opportunity at this event to hold a meeting, clarifying legal issues in B302A. The event was hosted by Dean of the Office of Academic Affairs, Chih-en Ko, member of the Tamkang University Regulations Committee and Director of the Graduate Institute of European Studies, Li-chuan Chen, and Director of the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Su-kuan Chiang.

New Language Online Training Facilities at TKU

【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Tamkang Times】The College of Foreign Languages and Literature is increasing students’ professional capabilities by installing new language training programs. These audio programs can be found in rooms T309, T408, T502 and T406. They will assist students and let them hear different languages while in class, increasing their interpreting skills and reaction time.

The Honor Roll Program Detailed

【Reported by Ya-han Cao, Tamkang Times】The Office of Academic Affairs held an information meeting to discuss the details of the Tamkang University’s Honor Roll Program on September 16th and there were over 100 individuals in attendance. The meeting gave students an opportunity to understand how to register for the elite academic program. The meeting was hosted by Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, and Lanyang Campus also attended via video conference.

【Reported by Kai-qi Zhang, Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times 】The Ministry of Education has released the names to receive the “Highly Commended Senior Teachers” and 68 professors from Tamkang University have been chosen. This honor is awarded to teachers who have taught from 10 to 40 years, showing respect in the form of financial funding for all of their care and dedication. This year at TKU, one professor received an award for 40 years, 3 professors for 30 years, 36 professors for 20 years and 28 professors for 10 years.

【Tamkang Times】Global Views Monthly magazine and 1111 have finished conducting a survey to find the most preferred university graduates by thousands of enterprises. The survey was conducted from June 24th to July 23rd, utilizing samples from both the internet and telephone. TKU was ranked 10th among all universities in Taiwan, making it the only private university to be ranked in the top ten. It was also ranked 1st among private universities. The categories used to gauge university rankings include Business and Management, Finance, Humanities, Social Science, Art, Design and Architecture.
