New Students are Ready for Action. Students Adjust to Campus Life Style if the TKU i-life App

【Tamkang Times】The new freshman have arrived and the semester has officially begun! On September 22nd the Innovation and Communication meeting took place and professor of the Center for General Education and Core Curriculum, Wen-chih Huang, introduced the curriculum to the students for the following two weeks. Also Executive Director of Outward Bound Taiwan, Ping-huang Liao, was invited to motivate students and stimulate their creative ideas.

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】The Department of Chemistry held a two-day international academic conference to discuss applications of chemistry and technological resources in day to day life. The conference presented a total of 100 dissertations researched from Osaka Prefecture University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and East China University of Science and Technology. Special guest speakers from Malaysia and Singapore University were invited give lectures on the topic.

【Reported by Qi Zhuo, Tamkang Times】The day before yesterday the Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction invited Professor of Yamagata University in Japan, Kochi Morita, and 9 other representatives to observe the “Taipei City and New Taipei City Elementary School Joint Curriculum Construction.” The event was an opportunity for teachers to come together from different arenas and learn through sharing curriculum ideas and personal experience.

Weight Loss Challenge Accepted

All of the faculty members have accepted the challenge to lose weight, reduce fat and stay in shape. On September 25th in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium, the Female Faculty Alliance presented the “Body Sculpting Campus” activity, promoting healthy habits to campus employees. Director of the Office of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, stated, “I’m so excited that the atmosphere for exercising at this university is picking up everyday. Now when I finish work, I see more and more faces as people making a habit of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It feels great.”

In celebration of Teacher’s Day, the Female Faculty Alliance held the “Fun Fitness for Life” banquet in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on the 26th of September. An appearance was made by President Flora Chia-I Chang, the three vice presidents and administrators of all kinds to show their appreciation for all of the professors at TKU.

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】On September 25th the Office of Quality Assurance and Audit held the 2014-15 Yearly Academic Work Evaluation Meeting in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, expressed, “The evaluation of the quality of every position in our university has become increasingly important now that we are dealing with the effects of the baby bust generation. The competition for students has increased and it is necessary that all of our departments undergo an evaluation to ensure the effectiveness of our university.”

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】Haruki Murakami research has become quite popular in Taiwan and throughout the world, even receiving a nobel prize. In 2012 Tamkang University’s Japanese Department designed the Haruki Murakami research program and founded the first Haruki Murakami research center in Taiwan. On September 22nd the official opening for the center was held, hosted by President Flora Chia-I Chang, who invited Translator of English Literature and former professor of Tokyo University, Motoyuki Shibata, to give a lecture contrasting American literature with Haruki Murakami.
