TKU Celebrates its 64th Birthday

【Reported by Ying-tian Fan, Tamkang Times】On November 8th, Tamkang University celebrated its 64th anniversary on the 7th floor in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Chairman Hong-shang Hong and Ching-nan Chen, Supervisor Mei-lan Wang, and former university Presidents Yea-hong Chen, Louis R. Chow, Yun-shan Lin and Honrg-jinh Chang. During the celebration, the 28th Golden Eagle was awarded to Ye-cheng Mai, Shi-an Cheng, Shi-fang Liu, and Zhi-ming Lin.

【Tamkang Times】On October 24th Tamkang University and the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) held the TKU-UEC Global Alliance Lab MOU Signing Ceremony. This agreement ensured the academic cooperation of the two universities for the next five years in hopes of stimulating more new developments and opportunities.

David Y. L. Lin Gives Lecture for College of International Studies

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】Minister from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, David Y. L. Lin, was invited by the College of International Studies and the Graduate Institute of European Studies to give a lecture on November 4th. The lecture was themed, “Displaying the Success of Viable of Diplomacy,” and took place in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. The event attracted over 250 teachers and students.

TKU Holds Forums on Global Trade

【Reported by Jin-yu Cai, Tamkang Times】Due to the related issues discussed by the Trans-pacific Partnership (TPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, the Department of Industrial Economics held two forums on November 4th titled, “TKU’s Industrial Economic Forum” and “Global Trade and the Development of Taiwan.” The forums were hosted by Director of the Department of Industrial Economics, Jun-hong Lin, and 5 specialists and researchers were invited to speak to a crowd of 40 teachers and students.

The Spirit of TKU is Reinvigorated by Remodel
Every department will be celebrating TKU’s anniversary. Today (8th) various department heads came to join the celebration (as seen below.) Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

【Reported by Yi-ru Chen, Zhi-yue Jiang, Kai-qi Zhang, Tamkang Times】After 64 years since the founding of Tamkang University, the Five Tiger Hills underwent remodeling during last summer semester. On November 8th a ceremony will be held, showcasing the new look with President Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu and many more will be in attendance. In addition there will be a performance by the cheerleaders and a tea party. After the event the basketball team, volleyball team and tennis team will practice in the new facility to break it in and test it out.

【Reported by Yi-mei Chen, Tamkang Times】According to the research gathered amongst 46 countries under the title “Global Talent 2012,” published in the 2012 Edition of Oxford Economics, Taiwan will be faced with a lack of qualified professional personnel. This information proves to possibly be more devastating to the economy than Taiwan’s current problem as an “aging generation.” In order to salvage the situation, the youth must be determined to fight for the future of Taiwan. This time period calls for a more ambitious and adventurous generation. In the afternoon on November 3rd, a forum was held titled, “Ambition- the Battle for Future Talent.”

Voter Turnout for Student Association Elections was Disappointing

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Xue-fen Ma, Tamkang Times】The 20th Student Association elections took place on the 5th of November and the turnout was less than ideal. Of 27,259 students only 691 students actually participated in the vote. There were 454 votes that approved of the current policies, 199 that disapproved and 38 votes that were invalid. Whatever the results, the amount of participants in this year’s election is much less than last year. The results have the student leaders asking questions.
