New Sports Area at Five Tiger Hills is Open

【Reported by Yu-xun Zhou, Tamkang Times】The use of the Five Tiger Hills’ integrated sports field was made official on November 8th with over 150 people in attendance for the celebration including President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, and Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu. President Chang expressed, “Because of the construction of the Chien Shou International Conference Center, the students’ most valued sports facility has been moved to the Five Tiger Hills. Now the volleyball courts, tennis court and basketball court have even better facilities for training and practice.”

【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Tamkang Times】Many exciting activities have taken place for Tamkang University’s 64th anniversary celebration including the beginning construction of the Chien Shou International Conference Center(CSIC) and the annual Homecoming Day celebration. In attendance for the homecoming banquet was President Flora Chia-I Chang, the three university vice presidents and contributors to the CSIC. The Golden Eagle Award was handed out and the Student Activity Center was filled with non-stop laughter.

President Chang Attends QS-APPLE Conference

【Reported by Shi-qing Huang, Tamkang Times】On November 13th President Flora Chia-I Chang participated in the 10th Annual QS-Apple Conference organized by Taipei Medical University and Quacquarelli Symonds in Taiwan. As head of the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan, President Chang spoke on the issue of, “The Future of Higher Education from a Taiwan Perspective.”

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】Photosynthesis and solar power are modern technologies that are continually being developed in the field of photochemistry. They revolve around utilizing the sun’s energy and transforming it into usable energy. Many of the roots of these developments lie in the, “Marcus Theory,” developed by Nobel Prize winner, Rudolph Arthus Marcus, who did extensive research in the 1950’s and 60s. On November 11th Tamkang University held the 19th International Workshop on Quantum Systems in Chemistry, Physics and Biology in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Professor Marcus was invited to give a lecture along with another Nobel Prize winner, Yuan Tseh Lee.

【Reported by Ying-tian Fan, Tamkang Times】Happy birthday TKU! On the 8th of November at 9:00 in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium, the 64th anniversary party took place. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed her gratitude to the Board of Trustees, former university presidents and 24,000 alumni for their united efforts of development. She stated, “Because of everyone’s diligence, we have become a well known and respected university to the public, fundraising 120,000,000 NT for the development of the Shou Chien International Conference Hall, which is estimated to be completed by the 66th anniversary of TKU.”

In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Hang-Chien Hsu, Ching-nan Chen, Dr. Loo Soon, Ding-chuan Chen, Juy-Lung Chen, Arnold Duan and the university Vice Presidents.
