TKU Diversifies Modifies Curriculum to be More Divers

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Xue-fan Ma, Tamkang Times】In order to continue to diversify study material at Tamkang University, every department often attends curriculum description meetings to improve study content and skills of encouraging students in their studies. In promotion of curriculum diversity, the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies is opening the National Security and Diplomacy Course this semester, which will allow students to have a deeper understanding of issues pertaining to national security and diplomacy, history and public administration. The goal is to use these realms of education to cultivate graduates with professional and practical skills for their future career.

【Reported by Jin-yu Cai, Tamkang Times】The Department of History held the Tamsui Studies and Regional Society History Forum on November 27th and 28th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Director of the Department of History, Chen-jung Lin, expressed, “This forum is themed around oceanic regions and we’ve invited educators and researchers from Japan, France, Sweden, Brussels, and Malaysia to share their experience and various publications. The forum detailed the many challenging issues historians are faced with in addition to their goals, materials and overall purpose.

16 Cross-Strait Architecture Workshops

【Reported by Jing Zhuang, Tamkang Times】The 16th Cross-Strait Academic Architecture Exchange is set to take place from November 30th to December 5th. The event will host the third Cross-Strait Architecture Exchange workshop, which will include eight schools from Mainland China, eight schools from Taiwan, adding up to a total of around 100 teachers and students. There opening ceremony was held on November 30th and the event will have a total of 11 different interactive workshops. The event will be hosted by Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture, Jin-shyong Luh, New Taipei City mayor, Chung-cheng Kao and Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, will also be in attendance.

【Reported by Bo-xian Lu, Tamkang Times】Renowned Taiwanese writer and Alumni from the Department of Mass Communication, Wenyin Chung, made an appearance on the television show, “Face and Book.” Her appearance was on the show’s 14th episode was titled, “Seeking My Travel Experience,” and was focused on letting the audience get a better understanding of Taiwanese literature.

TKU is Certified for ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 for 2014

【Reported by Qi-zhuo, Tamkang Times】On November 27th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall a meeting took place on Taipei and Lanyang Campus confirming TKU had received certification for the Occupational Health and Safety Management system of 2014. After SGS sent 6 assessors to TKU’s three campuses to do an inspection, TKU once again received both the ISO14001 Certification and the OHSAS18001 Certification.

Thanksgiving Celebration at TKU

【Reported by Ya-xuan Ji, Min-hua Wu, Tamkang Times】Once again it’s that time of year, and the traditional celebration of Thanksgiving has taken place on campus. On November 27th at noon, members of the Graduate Institute of the Americas gathered together in the Student Activity Center to celebrate and show thanksgiving for the American holiday. There were over 400 people in attendance, including President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, who welcomed the students in the festivities. Director of the Graduate Institute of the Americas, Hsiao-chuan Chen, expressed, “It is always exciting to have this celebration with students in this program. It’s very unique to have this event in Taiwan.” First-year student of the Graduate Institute of the Americas, Guan Hua Lu, stated, “There is a lot of food and it’s all really delicious.”
