How does everyone celebrate Christmas? On the 10th of December there was a musical Christmas celebration with around 200 people in the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center. Famous Taiwanese artist, Samuel, was invited to ignite the atmosphere with musical Christmas cheer. After performing 4 delightful songs, he stated, “He was grateful for so many things in his life, especially for his faith.” The celebratory night of warm feelings and gratitude was contagious as all the participants sang along and chatted throughout the night. First-year student of the Department of Mass Communication, Lin Yang stated, “This concert helped me let go of all of my frustrations and cherish the people around me.”

【Reported by Qi-zhuo, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s Boy Scout Team celebrates their 40th birthday this year! Starting from the 15th at the University Commons and the 16th at the Black Swan Exhibition Hall, there will be a 6 day Scout PaPa exhibition event. In addition, elementary and junior high boy scouts from the northern region of Taiwan and Tokyo Japan will join together for an overseas celebration.

From December 10th to the 12th, educators from 23 countries gathered together at TKU for the 2014 ICedu Tech, ITS & STE Conference. The conference included countries from Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australia and Asia. In total there were 65 honored guests that joined together for this great academic exchange hosted by Dean of the College of Education, Dian-fu Chang (second on the right) and Professor of the University of Aberta, Pedro Isaias (second on the left). IADIS gave special thanks to TKU for their assistance in the event.

The Center for Learning and Teaching Aims to Refine Curriculum Through Cooperation

【Reported by Yi-mei Chen, Tamkang Times】The Center for Learning and Teaching continues to raise the quality and effectiveness of the teaching curriculum through research and steady refinement. On December 8th and 9th the center signed a memorandum to cooperate with the College of Foreign Languages and Literature and the College of Engineering to create an even more effective teaching curriculum.

On December 4th the Division of Continuing Education gave a tour of Tamsui Campus to 160 students of Chinese langauge. The students were from various countries were lead by Dean of International Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee, who showed them the unique beauties of TKU. Director of the Center of Chinese Language, Hsiang-hua Chou, expressed, “It’s my hope that we can bring in lots of international guests so that they may be able to share their experience of TKU around the world. Today Pei-wha Chilee is bringing international attention to the Chinese Language Center, which is one of the primary objectives of TKU.

TKU Holds Review Board for Safety Certification

【Reported by Jing-ya Su, Tamkang Times】On December 12th Tamkang University held a review board for their mid-term international safety certification. Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu, stated, “Our accident rate at the university has dropped from 3.09 to 1.42 within the last five years, confirming our progress regarding safety.” Assistant Professor of the Japanese International Safety Certification Center, Mr. Fujita, gave a speech detailing Japan’s methods of practical application of international safety methods. He spoke about the many revelations he’s had through his experience of implementing safety measures and also gave valuable instructions to the teachers and students on what to do in case of an emergency.

【Reported by Shi-qing Huang, Tamkang Times 】Director of the Office of Quality Assurance and Audit, Di-ching Pai, attended the 2014 BSI GRC Strategic Management Conference, receiving the Personal Data Management Award on behalf of Tamkang University. TKU received praise from British Standards Institution and certification from BSI in Taiwan for its high quality personal data management system.

TKU and Taipei City Govt Hold International Academic Workshop.

【Reported by Hui-ping Liu, Bo-jun Zhuang, Tamkang Times】The day before yesterday, Tamkang University and the New Taipei City government jointly held the Danhai Region International Education Conference. This event represents the pooling together of resources to form an international academic strategic alliance. On December 17th the Center for European Union Studies held the “International Education” workshop under the premise of professional teacher development, passing along knowledge of the European Union to the Freehold Intermediate School. Professors holding classes for the event include Director of the Center for European Union Studies, Li-chuan Chen, Professor Chun-hung Chou and Associate Professor Lin Tsui.
