Christmas Lights Up TKU President Chang Blesses the New Year

【Reported by Ying-tian Fan, Tamkang Times】The Office of Student Affairs and the Office of General Affairs held the 2014 Tamkang University Christmas Lighting Ceremony on December 15th. In attendance was President Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Vice President of Administration Yi-jen Hu, and over three hundred students and teachers. President Flora Chia-I Chang addressed the audience, showing appreciation of the last year and giving blessings for the new year. She stated, “Through changing the present, we create the future. Blessings and prosperity to all at TKU.” She encouraged the students to continue to be diligent so that their lives would shine brightly, radiating the spirit of excellence.

【Reported by Kai-qi Zhang, Tamkang Times】Due to Tamkang University’s continual efforts in improving management, it was once again honored with the Work Study Program Award on December 18th. Dean of the Office of Human Resources, Shi-feng Chuang, received the award on behalf of TKU from MOE’s Se-hwa Wu. Shifeng Chuang expressed, “This award represents the many classes we’ve had to administer in order to improve our university’s management system.”

【Tamkang Times】The Department of English held the 6th Tamkang International Conference on Ecological Discourse on December 19th and 20th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Educators from 12 different countries attended the conference to share their experience on the subject including, Joni Adamson, Ann Fisher-Wirth, Priscilla Wald, Serpil Oppermann, Serenella Lovino, Peter Hajdu and more.

Forum Held On American and Cuban Relations

【Tamkang Times】In recent news, America and Cuba have broken through the ice of the cold war that has frozen their relationship for more than half a century. The Graduate Institute of the Americas held a forum on December 24th, to discuss this tremendous breakthrough. The forum was lead by professors of the Graduate Institute of the Americas, Hsiao-chuan Chen and I-hsin Chen. These two experts of the relationship between Cuba and America, analyzed what this new breakthrough means and what it could lead to in the near future.

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】On December 10th Director of the Department of Japanese, Bor-tau Chen (third on the left), received the The Order of the Rising Sun Award from President of Reitaku University, Osamu Nakayama (third on the right), who came to Taiwan to deliver the award personally. A banquet was held to honor the occasion with many in attendance including Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Hsi-deh Wu, and Executive Director of the Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development, Chun-young Perng.

TKU Travels to France

Director of the Department of French, An-chyun Jeng (see picture), Professor Shu-chuen Yang, Associate Professors Vauthier Pierre and Kerkalli Mohamad travelled to France on December 10th and 11th to visit with TKU’s sister school, The University Language Center(CLA) in France for a conference. The conference was a workshop titled, “How to Learn a Foreign Language.” The event gained the attention of the local media, who covered the academic exchange and the lifestyle of overseas students. Also the TKU representatives signed an agreement with Université Paris Diderot - Paris VII, formerly establishing a student exchange program set to begin from 2015. An-chyun Jeng stated, “I hope that we can continue to sustain a good relationship and make a plan for more exchanges in the future.
