The Winter Season Brings Warm Traditions

【Reported by Xue-fen Ma, Lanyang Campus】As we enter into the winter season, we warm ourselves with traditions of all kinds. The director of the Lanyang Campus, Jyh-horng Lin and Directors and students from 4 different departments gathered together for the annual tradition of tang yuan (sweet dumplings). The event called, “Warm in Winter” was put together by students as they shared the tradition with international students, who were able to sample tang yuan for the first time.

TKU Send Three Leaders on International Expedition

【Tamkang Times】The 4th annual Core and Corner’s “Leadership Travel Expedition” is planned to have close to 2000 participants. Three exceptional Tamkang University students have been selected for the trip: Guo-en Huang of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, You-lin Huang of the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering alumni from the Department of Political Economics, Yi-xi Wu.

TKU Signs Agreement for Environmental Protection with 25 Universities

【Reported by Hui-ping Liu, Tamkang Times】On December 19th the Dean of General Affairs, Shiaw-shyan Luo, represented TKU to meet with 25 Private Universities to sign the “The Talloires Declaration,” which promises to implement and sustain environmental protection on campus. Starting from August, 2012, the Green University Union of Taiwan has actively promoted the reduction of carbon waste and other environmental services.

【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】The College of Foreign Languages and Literature has laid out a 9 month plan that will promote, “Talking Tamkang University.” The plan is to use audio assistance to help students study literature in 6 different languages: English, Spanish, German, Japanese, French and Russian. Very soon anyone will be able to study language with audio assistance via QR Code or Youtube. The new program will have the support of New Taipei City Mayor, Eric Chu. The proposal is set to be mentioned in a conference taking place on January 6th.
