TKU Receives Recognition for Excellent Laboratory Safety and Hygiene.

【Reported by Li-xuan Li, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University has recently participated in the Ministry of Education’s, “Excellence in Laboratory Safety and Health of Academic Institutions,” evaluation and received first place. Dean of General Affairs and Director of the Center for Environmental Protection, Safety and Health, Shiaw-shyan, expressed, “TKU has worked actively and gone through careful scrutiny in creating a safe environment on campus. With the resources of MOE we’ve received OHSAS18001 and ISO14064-1 certifications of environmental safety management. It’s taken a lot of manpower to implement a safe environment on campus. We’ve adopted the principle of P.D.C.A., which is plan, do, check and act.”

【Reported by Yu-xun Zhou, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University held its 140th Administration Meeting last December 26th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Lanyang Campus attended the meeting via video conference. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed, “In the future in addition to implementing the 8 principles of education into our curriculum, I also look forward to more internship study programs to give students professional knowledge.”

【Reported by Jin-xuan Li, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s Center of Resources for Visual Impairment (CRVI) held the 2014 Annual Junior College Northern Resources for Physically Impaired Student Assistance meeting on December 26th. There were 33 professors in attendance and Executive Director of Hsi-ming Hung, expressed, “This event is a great platform for professors to exchange their personal experience involving students with special needs.”

Shorten the time of Graduate School as an Undergrad

【Reported by Ya-han Cao, Tamkang Times】In order to encourage undergraduate students at TKU to continue graduate school, the college of engineering has established a pre-graduate student study program since 2010, which gives senior students the qualification to begin taking graduate school courses. Now this program will be available at all the colleges at TKU, making it possible for students to graduate from graduate school after only a year of study.

【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Tamkang Times】In order to deal with the issue of space for the student clubs, TKU has dedicated the Five Tiger Hill Buildings to student club use for the next 5 years. Dean of Academic Affairs, Chih-en Ko, stated, “This location has been really exciting for the students to practice and train. They have such a beautiful view now to inspire them while they partake in their activities.” The two large buildings have cleared out 4 floors to fit the 27 different student clubs. There is plenty of room for the dance group, flag performance group and much more.
