Hong Kong Academic Alliance Visits TKU（Honored Guests Tour Lanyang Campus）

【Reported by Xue-fen Ma, Tamkang Times】On December 30th President of Po On Commercial Association Wong Siu Ching, Dik-wai Yue, brought a team to visit Lanyang Campus that included President of Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College, Yun-ming Tse, President of Po Leung Kuk Yao Ling Sun College, Mei-ling Chick and 12 other university presidents. They were welcomed by Dean of Lanyang Campus, Jyh-horng Lin, and directors of various departments to tour the campus’ unique and intriguing scenery.

College of Foreign Languages and Literature Publish New Textbook

【Reported by Bo-jun Zhuang, Tamkang Times】On January 6th the College of Foreign Languages and Literature published its new book, “Talking Tamsui,” and President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai and first and second level administrators of every department attended the opening ceremony. As part of the ceremony they displayed Special Secretary Wen-hsing Feng’s short film that featured the beautiful areas of Tamsui.

President Chang Delivers Lecture at the University of Tainan

【Tamkang Times】Last month on December 30th President Flora Chia-I Chang accepted an invitation from the National University of Tainan to give an academic lecture. The lecture was titled, “Peering Ahead at the Future You,” which revolved around student preparation for their future careers. President Chang presented the students with the challenge of questioning where their lives would be in the next 20 to 30 years and how their behavior today would impact that future.

The Department of Accounting is Certified for International Certification

【Reported by Ya-fen Xie, Tamkang Times】On December 5th the Department of Accounting received official international certification for accounting from the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants. On January 28th a ceremony will take place, celebrating Tamkang University’s progess in terms of international capabilities. News of this certification was published internationally in English and Chinese media from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China.

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Tamkang Times】Alumni from the Graduate Institute of Japanese Language, Gang Chen, began working in Bali’s Shihanhang Museum of Archeology last March. During his time there he has assisted with services in translation of children’s Japanese literature and even touring services, often times for Japanese visitors. He stated, “Even though I began learning a bit of Japanese when I was younger, I didn’t really have a systematic way of study until I came to Tamkang University. I’m very grateful for the language fundamentals I got during my time of study.”

【Reported by Xue-fen Ma, Tamkang Times】In order to emphasize the unique special qualities of the university, Lanyang Campus held an event showcasing the achievements on campus in the dormitories and in front of the library on December 30th. Director of Lanyang Campus, Jyh-horng Lin stated in his welcoming address, “It’s important that the spirit of excellence and good conduct transfer to more than just behavior in the classroom. By reminding ourselves to be excellent at all times, it will certainly create habits that will give students a strong future in their career.”

The University of Sydney Gives Lecture on Chinese American Relations

【Reported by Jin-yu Cai, Tamkang Times】On January 8th the College of International Studies invited Associate Professor from the University of Sydney in Australia, Jing-dong Yuan, to give a lecture on American Chinese relations and the challenges presented with management of the Pacific. Dean of the College of International Affairs, Gao-cheng Wang expressed, “I hope the students can have a deeper understanding of this international issue after hearing the lecture.”
