8 Departments are Recognized for Excellence in Development

【Ya-xuan Ji, Tamsui Campus Report】The Office of Quality Assurance and Audit held the 3rd Annual Department Development Awards Meeting on May 28th in the Chueh-sheng International Hall. Altogether 8 Departments were recognized as President Flora Chia-I Chang congratulated them on their success. She stated, “I’m certain these recent developments will be a great benefit for the students and I eagerly anticipate seeing your progress over the next year.”

Potential Danger Uprooted

【Jin-xuan Li, Tamsui Campus Report】The Office of General Affairs has taken up the task to removing trees located by the Foreign Languages and Literature Building and the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center after a safety campus investigation that took place on May 30th and 31st. It was determined that the trees currently pose a safety hazard that could lead to possible injury from falling debris after heavy rain. Director of the Energy Conservation and Space Section, Yu-san Chiang, stated, “It is estimated that the removal of the trees will be a process of 6 to 7 days and everyone should stay clear of these areas in the meantime.

【Tamkang University】Searching for the light switch in a dark room can be a frustration to everyone, especially if you are in a hurry. Students often find themselves reaching and feeling along the wall in a frenzy so that they can gather their belongings and make it to class on time. One team of students has come up with an invention that could make this issue a thing of the past. For the 2015 Creative Design Competition-Using Solar Cell, TKU students from the Department of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering created a laser light sensor electric panel that won first place. The student innovation was praised for it’s outstanding creativity, intuitiveness and design, beating the competition and earning a 100,000 NT cash prize.

Three Great Lecturers Come to TKU

【Zhuo Qi, Yu-xiang Sun, Hong-xiong Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】On May 25th the Department of Information Management invited a professor of National Central University, Eric T.G. Wang, to give lecture on the topic of Social Science and Technology. Eric T.G. Wang pointed out that the technology industries in different cultures, innovate and create different products according to factors related to the background of their own society. Mr. Wang has received numerous awards for his outstanding research and recently he was honored by the Ministry of Education’s Annual 52nd Social Science Technology Award.

【Yu-xuan Zhou, Tamsui Campus Report】The Annual Student Group Representative meeting took place on May 26th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu and all related administrators and officials, making up 150 people in total. Lanyang Campus also attended the meeting via video conference. The meeting began with President Chang handing out awards for 2015 China Youth Corps. Junior College Outstanding Students.

Tamkang University held the 2015 Miscellaneous Funding Committee Meeting. After meeting it was sent to the Ministry of Education on May 29th.

【Yi-feng Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】On May 26th Tamkang University held the 2015 Miscellaneous Funding Committee Meeting and Lanyang Campus attended via video conference. In attendance was Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu, Director of the Department of Finance and Applications, Jui-chih Chen, various department heads, and student representatives of 13 different departments. After meeting it was decided by many students that the allocation of funding had to be revised and it was sent to the Ministry of Education on May 29th, but this notion received opposition by students that felt the resolution didn’t need adjusting.
