Following the trend of mobile communications, internet of things (IoT) and big data, the world of higher learning is impacted, making campuses into smart campuses as we enter deeper into the era of technology. Along with this new technological lifestyle comes new challenges that require experts and designers to work together to overcome. For this reason, TKU’s Office of Information and the Ministry of Education held the 2015 “International Conference on Smart Campus and Exhibition (ICSC)” on Dec. 2 and 3 in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall.

【Ying Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】The Ministry of Education’s 2015-16 Academic Center of Related Organizations United for Overseas Students Activity (Northern Region) was held on Dec. 4 in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. The conference included the Ministry of Education’s International and Cross Strait Division, Overseas Community Affairs Council, Labor Division, Mainland Affairs Council, the Conscription of Organization of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 22 related government positions. In addition, there were 60 Private Universities of the Northern Region with teachers and international student representatives, along with Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, adding up to around 200 participants.

【Xin-yu Wang, Tamsui Campus Report】In order to improve Tamkang University administrator’s management methods and give them a better knowledge of safety issues, Director of Chinese Excellent Management Association (CEMA) and Chairman of Taisun Enterprise Co. Kenneth Yeh-lin Chan, sent Taisun Co.’s Technical Group Produce Supervisor, Min-qin Xiao, as a representative to attend TKU’s 145th Administration meeting on Nov. 27. Taisun Enterprise Co. has been established for 65 years and is famous for many grown products including tea and porridge.

Asia Future Session Workshop

【Tamkang Times】On Nov. 28 through 30 Tamkang University’s sister schools in Japan and Korea held the Asia Future Session workshop in celebration of the establishment of Osaka academic institutions and especially invited TKU university representatives to participate in the event that took place in Ritsumeikan University. Professor of the Department of Future Studies, Mei-mei Song and Exchange Group Member of the Office of International Studies and Cross Strait Affairs, Ching-yi Lee lead a group of 8 people to the workshop.

【Shi-qing Huang, Tamsui Campus Report】On Dec. 1 the Office of Student Affairs held the “2015-16 United University 4th and 5th year Graduate Student Representative Discussion,” in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Lanyang Campus attended the meeting via video conference. In attendance was Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, and related academic figures and administrators, totalling to 130 participants. Firstly, Yi-jen Hu, presented awards for excellent youth of the 2015-16 year. He expressed in his address, “From seeing the current situation between the administration and students, it’s apparent that there is a heavy emphasis of student news, study environment and active modifications. It’s my hope that this discussion will lend opportunity to even more improvements.”

On Oct. 31 the first year of TedxTKU took place. “Even when I was standing on the stage I couldn’t believe that we actually pulled off a TEDxTKU assembly.” Said Curator and second-year student of the Department of English, Zi-heng Hong. He expressed, “I simply wanted everyone to have a chance to come in contact with and understand TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design).” He added without hesitation. He stated he believes that good things should be shared and that now many universities are beginning to hold TED assemblies. “I wanted TKU to stand out among them.” Zi-heng finished.
