INNOVATION FOR GRADUATION DAY: PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES WITH SCHOOL DIGNITARIES

An innovative item in this year’s graduation celebrations is the arrangement for graduates to be photographed with the Founder, the President, and the Vice Presidents of Tamkang University. In order to allow the more than six thousand graduates sufficient time to take pictures, life-sized cartoon-style photos of the school dignitaries will be placed in several locations on the campus. These photos will be made to look like movie characters such as Gandalf, Superman, Batman, and Goddess of Fortune.

The graduation ceremony, organized by the Office of Student Affairs, will be held on June 5. At the coordinating meeting on May 12, the Office presented its plan for this year’s celebrations: apart from the traditional events of the ceremony and the campus tour, a new event, “photo souvenir”, will be added to the celebrations. The Office has invited the Founder of TKU, Dr. Clement C. P. Chang, President Horng-jinh Chang, Vice Presidents Flora C. I. Chang and Chao-kang Feng to participate in this innovative event. After the graduation ceremony, they will be photographed in their gowns with graduates outside the Student Activity Center. The two styles of their life-sized photos—one a realistic picture of them in gowns and the other a stylistic form designed by a cartoonist—will be waiting for graduates’ cameras all day on the campus.

The other innovation this year is to hold the campus tour before the graduation ceremony so as to avoid the kind of uncontrollable delay seen in the past years due to the long lines of graduates. Moreover, instead of the traditional song “Farewell”, this year the school choir will lead the graduates to sing “Feel Free to Fly” by the pop band Little Tigers, a song that is closer to students’ hearts.
