The new dormitory for freshman boys, which provides 990 beds, will be open in September. The deadline for application is August 20, 2003 (postmarked). All undergraduate and extension bachelor’s programs male students are eligible to apply. The distribution of beds will be decided by drawing lots and the University reserves the right for final arrangements. “Tamkang Garden,” the University’s new dormitory rented from Li-ting Construction Ltd. Company, is located at 153, 1st Section, Chung-shan North Road, Tamsui (next to McDonalds). The magnificent building holds the same standard as a high-grade hotel. It has 3 basements and 14 floors above ground; the student dormitory is located from the 3rd to 14th floors. It provides 258 rooms consisting of studios for 3 or 4 persons according to their sizes.
Every room has bright natural light and open views. The electricity is paid separately. For the resident safety, doors are equipped with codes and the gate is managed by security 24 hours. A reception hall is located at the entrance of the Garden; parking lots for cars and motorcycles are available in the basement. The top floor of the building features a large reception hall, a gym, self-service laundry machines, and space for drying laundry. The transportation is convenient; it only takes ten minutes by walking and 3 minutes by motorcycle to the campus.
The charge is $40,000 N.T. for an academic year, to be paid $20,000 N.T. every semester. Students can live in the Garden during the summer and winter breaks. The deposit is $3,500 N.T.; the full amount will be returned with no interest when the student leaves. The management fee is $3,600 N.T., which includes charges for security, cleaning, Internet service, and water and electricity fees for public use. Personal use of water and electricity is charged separately and shared by the individuals in the same room.
Also, Li-ting Construction Ltd. Company provides 32 scholarships ($5000 N.T. per person) for resident students every year.
