Tamkang University Board Appoints Hui-Huang Hsu as President and Names Sun-Lu Fan as New Trustee

President Huan-Chao Keh will complete his term on July 31, 2026. At its 9th meeting of the 14th Board of Trustees, held on the Taipei Campus on June 24, the Board voted to appoint Professor Hui-Huang Hsu, currently Vice President for Academic Affairs, as the 14th President of Tamkang University. The Board also completed the election of the 15th Board of Trustees, selecting nine trustees, including Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang.

The meeting was chaired by Chairperson Chang and attended in person by all trustees, Supervisor Jui-Chih Chen, and the MOE-appointed public-interest supervisor Chih-Cheng Chou. In accordance with the Regulations Governing the Selection of the President of Tamkang University, the Board reviewed the two candidates recommended by the Presidential Search Committee—Professors Cheng-Hao Pao and Hui-Huang Hsu. Following deliberation and a vote, Prof. Hsu was appointed President for a four-year term, from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2030.

Professor Hsu is an alumnus of Tamkang University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and holds both a master's degree and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Florida. Throughout his career at Tamkang, he has served as Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Dean of the College of Engineering, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation, Science and Technology Counselor and Head of the Science and Technology Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, and President of the Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He currently serves as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Center for Holistic Education, bringing extensive experience in both academic leadership and university administration.

Chairperson Chang expressed her appreciation for President Keh's outstanding leadership during his eight-year tenure. Guided by the strategic visions of "AI+SDGs=∞" and "ESG+AI=∞," President Keh has led the University's digital and net-zero transformation, culminating in the development of a fully cloud-based smart campus. Under his leadership, Tamkang has significantly enhanced student learning outcomes and administrative efficiency while achieving remarkable success in international and domestic rankings, including the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, Corporate Favorite surveys in Taiwan, and the number of approved Teaching Practice Research Projects. These accomplishments have firmly established Tamkang as one of Taiwan's leading private universities and laid a solid foundation for its sustainable future.

In accordance with the Private School Act, the Board also completed the election of the 15th Board of Trustees. The newly elected trustees are Flora Chia-I Chang, Charles C. Lin, Hong-Shang Hong, Kun-Yen Lee, Sush-Der Lee, Yi-Pin Chien, Wu-Tien Chou, Shao-Shing Wang, and Sun-Lu Fan. Chairperson Chang thanked outgoing trustee Wan-Chin Tai for his years of dedicated service and warmly welcomed Sun-Lu Fan to the Board. She expressed confidence that Fan's expertise in education policy would strengthen the University's governance and provide continued momentum for Tamkang's sustainable development.

New trustee Sun-Lu Fan earned her master's degree from Tamkang University's Graduate Institute of American Studies and was honored as a recipient of the University's 30th Golden Eagle Alumni Award. She has held numerous prominent public positions, including Legislator, Deputy Minister of Education, Director of the Education Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, and Member of the Control Yuan. Throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for educational innovation and has played a leading role in advancing policies and legislation related to education reform, gender equality, and support for disadvantaged communities.
