Like climbing Tamkang University's iconic Overcoming Difficulties Slope, a shared memory for generations of Tamkang students, the University has reached another milestone in teaching innovation. According to the Ministry of Education's review results announced on June 26, Tamkang University had 69 Teaching Practice Research Projects approved for the 2026 academic year, setting a new institutional record and ranking first among Taiwan's comprehensive universities for the fourth consecutive year. Of these, 35 projects focus on AI-Empowered Teaching and Human–AI Collaboration, accounting for more than half of the total approved projects and demonstrating the University's continued success in integrating artificial intelligence into teaching. The Office of Physical Education once again ranked first nationwide in its field with eight approved projects, while Professor Chih-Lin Chung of the Department of Transportation Management achieved an unprecedented milestone by securing funding for the ninth consecutive year.
This year's approved projects extend well beyond AI-enabled teaching and human–AI collaboration to encompass topics including language education, English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), intercultural and international communication, project-based learning (PBL), capstone and experiential learning, authentic learning environments, sustainability, University Social Responsibility (USR), and environmental and social responsibility. The broad range of themes reflects Tamkang faculty's commitment not only to improving classroom instruction but also to addressing sustainable development, social responsibility, and pressing public issues. It also demonstrates that the University's teaching practice research has evolved from enhancing individual classroom methods to embracing diverse educational innovations, including AI integration, interdisciplinary project-based learning, evidence-based assessment of learning outcomes, international communication competencies, and sustainability-focused education.
Academic Vice President Professor Hui-Huang Hsu attributed the University's outstanding achievement to the dedicated efforts of academic leaders across its colleges and departments, who have actively encouraged faculty participation in teaching practice research. He also recognized the Center for Teacher Professional Development for organizing numerous lectures and workshops to support faculty members in developing competitive proposals, describing the Center as a key driver behind the University's continued success. While celebrating Tamkang's sustained excellence, Professor Hsu emphasized that the greatest value of the Teaching Practice Research Program lies in inspiring faculty members to transform educational research into meaningful actions that respond to students' learning needs, professional development, and societal challenges. In the face of rapid advances in AI technology and profound changes in the workplace, he encouraged faculty members to continue refining their teaching approaches and exploring innovative possibilities. "Whether or not a proposal is ultimately approved, the commitment to continuously improving teaching will translate into tangible learning benefits for every Tamkang student," he said.
According to Director Yueh-Hsia Chang of the Center for Teacher Professional Development, the University's strong performance in the Teaching Practice Research Program reflects faculty members' active response to Tamkang's strategic visions of "AI+SDGs=∞" and "ESG+AI=∞." The large number of AI-related projects demonstrates that faculty have incorporated AI into curriculum design, instructional material generation, learning scaffolding, assessment and feedback, project-based learning, and professional judgment training, aligning closely with the University's Smart Campus 3.0 initiative and its strategic goal of "AI-Driven Teaching Innovation." AI is no longer viewed merely as a tool for lesson preparation or content generation; rather, it has become an integral element of instructional design that enhances student learning, supports faculty scholarship on teaching, and strengthens the cultivation of professional competencies.
