To address the growing cybersecurity challenges brought about by artificial intelligence and digital transformation, Tamkang University's Department of Information Management, in collaboration with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FETnet) and Information Security Service Digital United (ISSDU), has launched the practice-oriented New Information Security Program. After three years of development, the program has established a comprehensive teaching framework that integrates industry co-teaching, hands-on training platforms, corporate visits, and talent cultivation, creating a cybersecurity education model that combines academic rigor with practical experience. Beginning in the 2026 academic year, the program will be expanded from an elective within the Department of Information Management to a college-wide elective offered by the College of Business and Management, allowing students from across the college to enroll. Enrollment is expected to increase from approximately 70 to 120 students, cultivating a larger pool of interdisciplinary talent equipped with cybersecurity expertise.
The Department of Information Management, together with FETnet and ISSDU, jointly developed two core courses: Fundamentals of Information Security Practice and Enterprise Applications of Cybersecurity. The curriculum covers information security management, network and system security, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and emerging technology security. In addition to classroom instruction by industry professionals, students participate in corporate visits and hands-on training in cloud-based laboratories, enabling them to bridge academic learning with real-world enterprise practice while strengthening their professional cybersecurity skills.
During the presentation, Associate Professor Pei-Yu Cheng of the Department of Information Management explained that, over the past three years, the program has not only incorporated industry-developed teaching materials but has also benefited from the long-term support of its industry partners, who continue to provide course content, laboratory exercises, and instructional resources. Faculty members regularly update the curriculum to reflect the latest cybersecurity technologies and industry trends. The teaching team has also independently developed a cybersecurity attack-and-defense training platform that simulates real-world enterprise scenarios. Using cloud-based resources, students conduct cyber defense exercises, solve practical security challenges, simulate hacker attack processes, and complete comprehensive midterm and final practical assessments, thereby enhancing their problem-solving abilities and hands-on technical skills.
Since the program's launch, nearly ten students have completed internships at organizations including FETnet, CHT Security, the Institute for Information Industry's Cybersecurity Technology Institute, and Galaxy Software Services (GSS). Graduates of the program have also been admitted to cybersecurity-related graduate programs at National Chengchi University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, National Sun Yat-sen University, and National Chung Cheng University, while others have entered the cybersecurity industry directly upon graduation.
Dean of the College of Business and Management, Li-Ren Yang, noted that after three years of implementation, the program has established a comprehensive talent development ecosystem encompassing industry-led instruction, practical training, corporate visits, internship opportunities, and pathways to graduate education. Beginning in the 2026 academic year, the program will be expanded into a college-wide elective open to students from across the University, to foster interdisciplinary professionals who possess both strong digital competencies and essential cybersecurity expertise.
