TKU Signs Strategic Alliance with Onomichi High School in Japan

On March 7, the Principal, Takasuke YAMAMOTO, Chairman Haruhiko KATO, and Head of the Education Support Department, Makoto SAKAI, of Onomichi High School in Japan, visited Tamkang University and were received by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs. Apart from discussing short-term course planning matters with the International Affairs Office, they also signed a strategic alliance with Tamkang University. Representatives from both schools, Yamamoto and President Keh, signed the agreement, expressing mutual anticipation for active cooperation in talent cultivation and diverse exchanges in the future.

Tamkang Shines at University Expo, Faculty and Students Unite in Recruitment Efforts
The “2024 University and Technological College Multiple Entrance Expo” kicked off on March 2, with our faculty and students working hard in recruitment, attracting continuous crowds.

On March 2 to 3, the Admission Strategy Center participated in the “2024 University and Technological College Multiple Entrance Expo” held at the National Taiwan University Sports Center. In addition to planning booth arrangements, various department students were assigned to distribute leaflets, providing preliminary departmental inquiries to visiting high school students, parents, and teachers. Additionally, professors from various departments were arranged to address individual needs such as departmental characteristics or future development, providing answers or recommendations to enhance their understanding of our school and increase their willingness to enroll.

Mainstreaming Gender Equality: Wen-Chih Huang Details the Journey of Gender Equality Advocacy

On March 5, the Gender Equality Commission held a seminar on gender mainstreaming at the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. Wen-Chih Huang, Chief Secretary of the Board of Trustees, was invited to share insights on “Revisiting Gender Equality Laws and Promoting Gender Mainstreaming”. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Chun-Hung Lin, and first-level supervisors of Tamkang University attended the session. During his speech, Dr. Lin explained that Tamkang University, as a partner institution in the trial project for gender mainstreaming under the Ministry of Education's project - “the Establishment of the Gender Mainstreaming Resource Center for Higher Education Institutions”, has been organizing various gender equality-related discussions on campus. He hoped these efforts would further advance gender mainstreaming initiatives within Tamkang University.

Women’s Association General Assembly: 100+ Participants Celebrate International Women's Day

On March 8, the Women Faculty and Staff Association held the first meeting of its 15th General Assembly at the Chueh-Sheng International Conference Hall. Over a hundred members, including the Chairperson of Tamkang University, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, attended the event. In addition to providing a sumptuous lunch, each member was given a box of nutritious multigrain rice as a gift for International Women's Day.

Po-Shen Pan Guides Research Team: Tzu-Ching Chou and Others' Paper Featured on Cover of International Journal

Associate Professor Po-Shen Pan's team from the Department of Chemistry, along with Professor Jyh-Chiang Jiang's team from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, completed a paper titled “The use of multicomponent reactions in the development of bis-boronic acids for the detection of β-sialic acid.” It was featured on the cover of the international journal “Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry” on February 28. The journal is ranked in the top 25% of Q1 journals with an impact factor of 3.26.

Chi-Cheng Lee Named Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society
Dr. Chi-Cheng Lee was Named 2024 Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society, Sole Taiwanese Recipient, and Lifetime Honor Recipient.

On March 5, Associate Professor Chi-Cheng Lee from the Department of Physics was selected as an Outstanding Referee for the year 2024 by the American Physical Society (APS). Among approximately 91,600 referees this year, APS chose 156 Outstanding Referees. Dr. Lee is the sole Taiwanese recipient of this honor and has been granted lifetime recognition. This acknowledgment serves to encourage and commend their contributions to maintaining the high quality of journals and their dedication to the global physics community.

Strategic Studies Institute and TVBS Co-organize Forum on US-China-Taiwan Trilateral Relations

Amid the convening of the "National People's Congress" and the "Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference" in mainland China in March 2024, and prior to the inauguration of the president in Taiwan on May 20, the situation across the Taiwan Strait and the interactions among the United States, China, and Taiwan have attracted significant attention. The International Affairs and Strategic Studies Institute of Tamkang University, in collaboration with the Association of Strategic Foresight, and TVBS, hosted the "Tense vs. Cautious: Forum on US-China-Taiwan Trilateral Relations Before May 20" on March 15 at Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei. This forum aimed to discuss global focal issues.

On March 5 and 7, the College of Education held 2 "Futures Literacy Workshops" in room ED601, led by visiting research scholar Dr. Sohail Inayatullah. The workshops were attended by about 70 participants, including members of the Futurization Committee, such as the Academic Vice President and Director of the Sustainable Development and Social Innovation Center, Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, as well as faculty members and students exploring sustainability. Dr. Hsu delivered a speech during the workshop, expressing the hope that through the guidance and application of tools and methods by Dr. Sohail Inayatullah, we can achieve our expected future goals.
