Overseas Student Orientation - 2 "Lucia Chen" Jointly Introduce Tamkang
The International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office organized an orientation seminar for incoming overseas students to assist in getting acquainted with Tamkang University.

The International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office held an orientation seminar for incoming overseas students on February 19 in the Ching-Sheng International Conference Hall. The aim is to assist them in getting to know, understand, and become familiar with Tamkang University. Over 50 students from Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Australia, Spain, Finland, France, and Russia participated in the event.

Chih-Hsin Chen Visits the Headquarters of Applied Materials, National Laboratory in the US, Facilitating Collaborative Research between Faculty and Students
Dr. Chih-Hsin Chen (third from the right) visited the headquarters of Applied Materials, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer in the United States, and took a group photo with employees from Taiwan.

Dr. Chih-Hsin Chen, the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, visited the United States from January 29 to February 1, where he paid a visit to the Science and Technology Division, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco (TECO in San Francisco). He also had discussions and exchanges with the headquarters of Applied Materials, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer, and with local overseas Chinese communities, academic circles, and industry professionals. The primary purpose of his trip was to attend the "2024 SPIE Photonics West Exhibition" in the United States, where he delivered a keynote speech. Additionally, he visited the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to discuss future faculty research collaboration projects, which received positive feedback. Plans were made to send graduate students from Tamkang University to the United States for internships and collaborative research projects.

2024 Webometrics Rankings of World Universities Ranks Tamkang as the Top Private University in Non-medical Fields in Taiwan
The Vice President for Administration Affairs of Tamkang University, Dr. Chun-Hung Lin, was interviewed by the media at the press conference.

1111 Job Bank collaborated with TUN University Network to conduct the "2024 Corporate Favorite University Survey." They held a press conference on the morning of February 27, the day of the college entrance exam results announcement, to announce the rankings. Tamkang University ranked 9th overall, leading among private universities and winning the championship among private universities. Vice President for Administration of Tamkang University, Dr. Chun-Hung Lin, and Secretary-General, Dr. Yu-Pei Ma, jointly attended the press conference, and they were interviewed by FTV, TTV, USTV, SET, and PTS.

The Tamkang University Golden Eagle Club held its member assembly and Lunar New Year banquet on February 20 at the Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel. President Huan-Chao Keh, Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang, former Presidents Dr. Ron-Yaw Chao and Dr. Horng-Jinh Chang, and 3 vice presidents attended, along with 47 elite alumni, exchanging greetings. Former Minister of Education and current chair professor at Tamkang University, Dr. Ching-Ji Wu, was also invited to deliver a keynote speech titled: "Restoring the Value and Hope of Education."

Good Life & North Tamsui Nominated for the 2024 Global Views USR Award
The USR Project “Good Life in Tamsui” has been nominated for the 2024 Global Views USR Award in the Local Integration Category with its initiative "Post-Pandemic Resilient Commercial District Development: 2023 Tamsui Life Festival."

The 2024 Global Views University Social Responsibility Award shortlist was announced on February 20. Tamkang University's USR project, "Tamsui Good Life: Creative Design Action Inspired by Mountains, Sea, and River" (淡水好生活：山海河賦創設計行動) has been nominated in the Local Integration category with the initiative "Post-Pandemic Resilient Commercial District Development: 2023 Tamsui Life Festival." (疫後韌性商圈營造策略：2023淡水生活節) The project "Digitally Discovering the Charm of the North Tamsui: An Integrated Land and Sea Travel Experience" (淡北風情e線牽、海陸旅遊全體驗) has also been nominated in the Industry Co-creation category with the initiative "Sino-French War Huwei Banquet." (清法戰爭滬尾宴)

Teaching Practice Research Project: 3 Tamkang Teachers Receive Excellence Awards
Professor Yi-Hsuan Wang from the Department of Educational Technology (left), Professor Mei-ling Wang and Associate Professor Min-Fen Tu from the Department of Business Administration have been awarded the Outstanding Teaching Practice Research Project for the 2022 academic year.

The winners of the Outstanding Teaching Practice Research Project for the 2022 academic year were recently announced. Professor Yi-Hsuan Wang from the Department of Educational Technology, Professor Mei-Ling Wang and Associate Professor Min-Fen Tu from the Department of Business Administration were recognized by the review committee. They were selected for excellence awards in education, business and management, and the University Social Responsibility (USR) project. Among them, Dr. Yi-Hsuan Wang has been honored with this distinction for the 3rd time, while Dr. Tu received recognition as an outstanding project recipient upon passing the “Teaching Practice Research” Subsidies Program for the first time.

“Chase Light - 2024 Tamkang University Department Expo" kicked off on March 9.

"Chase Light - 2024 Tamkang University Department Expo" was held on March 9 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Tamsui campus. The results of the college entrance exam have been released recently. Tamkang University organized this expo to provide candidates, high school teachers, and parents with an opportunity to understand and learn about the curriculum, highlights, and future career prospects of each department. It aimed to help candidates understand the advantages and differences of each department, choose their preferences based on their interests and scores, and prepare for interviews to stand out among many competitors and enroll in the appropriate department.

Alumnus Wei Been Yu Establishes iST Elite Scholarship, Offering Up to NT$1.08 Million; Yuru Lin and Cheng-En Lee Awarded
Yu-Ru Lin (right), a fourth-year student from the Advanced Materials Science Program, received the first iST Elite Scholarship. The award was presented by Tamkang University alumna and iST Vice President Judy Chen on behalf of the company.

Founded by Physics Department alumnus Wei Been Yu, Integrated Service Technology Inc. (iST) collaborates with the Physics Department to select outstanding students for internships at iST. The results of the first "Elite Cultivation Scholarship" have been announced. Yuru Lin, a fourth-year student in the Bachelor's Program in Advanced Materials Science, and Cheng-En Lee, a fourth-year Physics student, have been selected. They have demonstrated excellent academic performance and outstanding performance in practical courses or equipment operations. After being recommended by their supervising professor, Dr. Ping-Hung Yeh, they went through interviews and selection processes to receive the scholarship.

Annual Meeting of the Physics Society of Taiwan: Wen-Chun Chen, Zong-Jhe Hsieh Awarded Best Poster Paper

In January, the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Physics Society of Taiwan was held at National Central University. Guided by Dr. Cheng-Hao Chuang, chair of the physics department at Tamkang University, fourth-year physics student Wen-Chun Chen and second-year master's student Zong-Jhe Hsieh presented their academic research papers on-site. They were awarded the Best Poster Paper Prize in the "Emerging Energy Science" category at the project results presentation.
