The World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) announced its 2024 rankings: WURI Ranking 2024. Among 292 global projects, the project "Empowering Futures: International Collaboration in Education and Sustainability," led by Professor Yen-Ling Lin from the Department of Economics, ranked 47th worldwide. It is the only project from Taiwan to enter the Top 100 in the "Social Responsibility" category, demonstrating Tamkang University's exceptional achievements in implementing University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives.

Information Management Department Celebrates 40th Anniversary: Alumni Optimistic About Future Prospects

The Department of Information Management celebrated its 40th anniversary with a "Department Anniversary Banquet" held on October 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the Student Activity Center. The event brought together faculty, students, and alumni, with 45 tables set up for the festivities. Many alumni, including those who graduated decades ago, returned to their alma mater to reunite with current and retired faculty. The joyful gathering allowed participants to reminisce about fond memories and discuss future prospects. Everyone agreed on their optimism about the department's continued development. The event also featured a game area and snack station for alumni and their families, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

Assoc. Prof. Ming-Kai Chen Partners with Lv De Bao to Develop High-Efficiency Microbial Enzymes for Glass Fiber Recycling
1.Associate Professor Ming-Kai Chen from the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with Lv De Bao Environmental Technology, unveiled a high-efficiency microbial enzyme. The achievement was recognized by Chueh Chao (left), Secretary-General of the Taiwan Composites Association, and Rong-An Wu, Research Fellow at the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Associate Professor Ming-Kai Chen from the Department of Chemistry has developed a high-efficiency microbial enzyme degradation technology capable of recycling glass fiber-reinforced thermoset plastics (GRP) waste. The research was conducted in collaboration with the Taiwan Composites Association, Tamkang University's Office of Research and Development, the Department of Chemistry, and Lv De Bao Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. The results were presented on October 24 at HC305 in the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. Researcher Rong-An Wu from the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs praised the innovation, noting that it generates no wastewater or smoke, operates at low temperatures without consuming significant energy, and enables recycled glass fibers to be reused, achieving a goal of zero emissions.

Science Education Center Joins Taiwan Science Train, Guides Students in Hands-On Experiments

Former Dean of Research and Development, current Director of the Science Education Center, Professor Bo-Cheng Wang from the Department of Chemistry, along with Associate Director of the Center and Associate Professor of Chemistry Jin-Pei Deng, participated in the "2024 Taiwan Science Train" event, organized by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). The event's handover ceremony was held on October 21 at Banqiao Station of Taiwan Railways. Nearly 600 teachers and students from 8 elementary and middle schools attended, stepping out of their classrooms to conduct hands-on experiments on the train. Activities varied at each station; at Banqiao Station, students used polarized light filters to appreciate artwork or view different color tones, having a great time.

On October 30, Microsoft Taiwan General Manager Sean Pien and Public Sector Business Group General Manager Danny Chen, along with 2 other representatives, visited Tamkang University to meet with President Huan-Chao Keh. The meeting was attended by Dean Lee Tzung-Hang of the Colleges of Engineering, Artificial Innovative Intelligence, and Precision Healthcare, as well as Chief Information Officer Kuei-Ping Shih. Discussions centered on furthering the application of Microsoft’s cloud AI tools based on the foundation of the university’s "Smart Cloud Campus 2.0" initiative, with the aim of advancing digital and net-zero transformation efforts and moving toward the vision of a cloud-based university city.

By-Election Results Announced: New Student President, Vice President, and Business Management College Representatives Elected
Students gathered at the bulletin board next to the Student Association to read the thank-you message from the newly elected representative, Ling-Hong Zeng.

The Student Association Election Committee held a by-election for 3 student self-governing organization positions from October 15 to 17, with results announced on October 18. The 30th Student Association President and Vice President positions were won by Kai-Hsiang Lo, a Public Administration senior, and An-Li Lai, a senior from Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering, respectively. Additionally, the 44th Student Council gained a new Business and Management College representative, Ling-Hong Zeng a Public Administration sophomore.
