ZHENG-MING YANG AND FIVE OTHER ALUMNI WILL BE AWARDED

The 17th ‘TKU Elite’ Golden Eagle Award, representing the greatest honor bestowed upon TKU alumni, has been awarded to six alumni－Yang Zheng-ming, Rao Shi-yong, Liu Fang-nan, Yang Zhi-jian, Chen Zhao-shen, and Ye Qi-dong, who all happen to be male this year. They will receive their trophy and certificate from Founder Dr. Clement C.P. Chang at the 53rd anniversary celebrations.

OPENING CEREMONY FOR TKU 53RD ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS TO BE HELD ON NOV. 8

Events commemorating TKU’s 53rd anniversary have already begun last week. They will be in full swing this Saturday, Nov. 8, the anniversary day. All faculty, staff, alumni and parents of students are cordially invited to attend.

RESULTS OF DIGITALIZED CAMPUS "TEACHING SUPPORT PLATFORM" WERE ON VIEW LAST WEEK

The results of the initial stage of the Teaching Support Platform (TSP), a digitalized campus, developed by TKU were on display at the Future of Higher Education Exhibition hosted by the College of Education last week. The project of TSP started in January this year and is currently used by 121 teaching staff, which has fulfilled the goal of at least one teacher per department, the short-term goal of this project.

TKU DISSERTATIONS IN BIG DEMAND

According to the statistics from the National Central Library (NCL) regarding “National Dissertation and Thesis Database”, which came out at the end of October, TKU’s dissertations are ranked highest amongst private universities in terms of the frequency of downloading with a total of 125,385, which accounts for 3.3% of the entire frequency.

LECTURE SERIES HOSTED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

The Department of English has invited the world-renowned scholar in Teaching English as the Second Language (TESOL), Professor Stephen Krashen to hold a series of lectures on learning English as a second language at TKU. They will start on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with three lectures and one discussion session. All teachers and students are cordially invited.

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING HAS WON FIRST

Following the achievement of their ‘Forerunner’, the FIFA football champion of the World Robocup, the Department of Electrical Engineering has once again demonstrated their brilliance in another contest. They have won the first and second prize and various other prizes for Outstanding Work among 100 plus contestants from different universities in the Nios Embedded Processor Design Competition organized by the Galaxy Far East Corporation. The same ‘Forerunner’ team, which is comprised of voice-controlled robots, has won the second place, whereas the first prize went to the technology of “Personal identification system using fingerprint image”, developed by the same department. Both designs won praise by the majority of the judges.

“PRECIOUS BOTTLES ROOM” DEDICATED TO RESEARCH ON LIQOUR CULTURE

The Office of Liquor Culture Research, also known as “Precious Bottles Room”, set up by the Department of History will be opened on Nov. 7, this Friday. In celebrating this event, there will be an opening of an exhibition of well-known Chinese liquors from Taiwan, Kinmen, Matzu as well as China Mainland. TKU’s Founder, Dr. Clement C. P. Chang will be there personally to cut the ribbon, and all faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend.

TKU WOMEN'S TABLE TENNIS TEAM WINS SECOND PLACE AND THE MEN’S TEAM THE FOURTH;

In promoting the exchange of table tennis skills among the colleges in Northern Taiwan area, The Office of Physical Education of TKU hosted a table tennis competition inviting 19 colleges, of which 33 teams attended. TKU’s table tennis teams showed an excellent performance by winning the second place in the women’s category and the fourth in the men’s category.

THE EXHIBITION OF CARRIE CHANG FINE ARTS CENTER’S 2003 COLLECTION OPENS ON FRIDAY

Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, which was inaugurated on the 50th anniversary of TKU three years ago, will unveil the 2nd exhibition of its fine arts collection, on Friday, Nov. 7. The opening ceremony will be held amid a tea party at 2 p.m. on that day.
