CELEBRATING 53rd ANNIVERSARY OF TAMKANG UNIVERSITY:

Tamkang University celebrated its 53rd founding anniversary on November 8. The day’s activities began at 9 a.m. with the celebration rally at the Student Activity Center: ceremonies of TKU Elite Award, ISO 14001 Certification, and donation/fundraising awards were held during the rally.

NEW COLLECTED ART WORKS EXHIBITED IN CARRIE CHANG FINE ARTS CENTER

The opening tea party for the “Exhibition of Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center’s 2003 Collection” was held on Nov. 7, 2003, at the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center. Founder Clement Chang, President Horng-jinh Chang, Vice President Chao-kang Feng and many artists attended the party to celebrate and appreciate the new collections of CCFAC. Founder Chang praised Mr. Chi-mao Lee, Director of CCFAC, for his resourcefulness in recruiting these works and in raising the artistic temperament of colleagues and students of TKU.

25 ALUMNI GRADUATED 50 YEARS AGO CELEBRATED THIS YEAR’S ANNIVERSARY

Founded 53 years ago, Tamkang University has over 170,000 alumni. The graduates of the first two years have left Tamkang for over half a century. This year Mr. Chang Po-shin and twenty-four other old alumni were invited by the Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development to come back to the University for a day of celebrations marking the 53rd founding anniversary.

AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ROOM OF PRECIOUS BOTTLES

The “Room of Precious Bottles”, founded by Department of History, was first open to the public on Nov. 7, 2003. Founder Clement Chang and President Horng-jinh Chang popped champagne corks to celebrate the opening of this room with its interesting collection. “In the noted foreign universities, such as Stanford U and Harvard U, various museums have been set up on the campus. In addition to the Maritime Museum and Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, we add one more museum to enrich the teachers and students of TKU with art and culture,” Founder Chang added.

CLEMENT C. P. CHANG INSPECTED THE CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE OF LANYANG CAMPUS

Last Saturday, Chair of the Preparatory Office of Lanyang Campus, Founder Clement C. P. Chang, led the office members to supervise and survey the progress of construction and listened to the briefing on the campus’ general future development. That day the Secretary General of Ilan County Government Yuan-fa Chen also led several officials to the Construction Office at Linmei Mountain; he, together with Supervisor of Chiao-hsi Village Cheng-sheng Lin and Chair of the Village Council Tsong-fan Chen, spoke to support Tamkang’s construction at Ilan.

FORMOSAN DELICACIES GATHER AT THE ANNIVERSARY CAMPUS FAIR AND SPREAD THEIR AROMA.

You don’t need to travel long for Da-Chia’s purple taros fries, Keelung’s pineapple fries, Peng-Hu’s black-sugar cakes: many clubs and businesses, with a view to good sale opportunities on Tamkang’s anniversary, came to the campus today (November 8), and they guaranteed that all their products came from authentic originals. After the opening ceremony at 9 o’clock, you can taste them at the campus fair around the University Commons. Besides, interesting activities like throwing water balloons and free hair styling are held among the sixty stalls for you to join in. As the executive organizer of the fair Li-hsing Chang indicated, this year’s fair is different from the previous ones: stalls located along Palace-Lamp Street last year have been moved to the Poster Street and the front and sides of the library. Alumni associations are providing various famous local delicacies: Taichung alumni are selling Yu-tseng-hsing’s butter fries and purple taros fries; Keelung alumni Li-Ku Bakery’s pineapple and strawberry fries; Peng-Hu alumni Black Girl Bakery's black-sugar and red bean cakes; Hua-Lian alumni Fong-Hsing Bakery’s Ray-Ku-Do cookies. They stress that all these products have been delivered from places of original production, and everybody can enjoy the most authentic flavors.

MASTER YANG’S ARTWORK “GLOBAL VILLAGE” INSCRIBES GLOBAL TKU

When passing by Sao-mo Memorial Natatorium Complex, one must be surprised by the new outdoor abstract sculpture named “Global Village,” a posthumous artwork by master Ying-feng Yang. Both TKU founder Dr. Clement C. P. Chang and president Horng-jinh Chang attended the ceremony for revealing this statue on Nov. 9.

“MULTIMEDIA STUDIO” ESTABLISHED

The opening ceremony for the newly established “Multimedia Studio” in the Department of Information and Communication was held on Nov. 8 at Communication Hall Room 306. The studio will offer a series of courses, including 2D and 3D motion picture production, marketing management, digital images production, etc. Students will be allowed to take projects outside campus and be encouraged to participate in various competitions. By doing so, students will be able to combine theory and practice, preparing themselves for the future job market. Professor Chien-chou Shih of this program, indicates that this program is a response to the digital industrial development program in the “Challenging 2008” national plans for development. By establishing the studio, the Department of Information and Communication wishes to mold students as future star players in the digital industry.

THE ORCHID EXHIBITION WAS HELD AT THE EXHIBITION HALL OF THE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT BUILDING

“There are only ten tubs of orchid left now!” said one of the crew of the Orchid Exhibition happily. It is the second day of the exhibition, held at the exhibition hall of Business Management Building. The orchids for sale, originally occupying the two sides at the front gate, are almost sold out, with only several tubs left. It shows that the Orchid Exhibition, which has taken place for twenty years or more, has many loyal supporters already.

TO CELEBRATE TKU’S 53rd ANNIVERSIRY, THE PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB TO HOLD

Hosted by the Photography Club, a photography contest for celebrating TKU’s 53rd anniversary, “Photographing the Beauty of TKU” will be held at the Student Activity Center at 10:00 o’clock this morning (Nov. 8). All of the eighty-nine photographs shot by the entrants will be exhibited there, and every member of TKU is welcome to be the judge in deciding the Top Three.
