CELEBRATING THE 55TH TKU ANNIVERSARY:

The 55th TKU anniversary coincides with the beginning of recruitment of students in Lanyang Campus and the inauguration of TKU’s “fourth wave.” TKU President, Dr. Flora C. I. Chang decides to broaden the scope of celebration and mobilize all staffs to organize series of activities. Following the organization of the 50th anniversary celebration, the staffs are separated into six divisions to take charge of related activities. The six divisions and respective coordinators are as follows:

OFFICE OF ALUMNI SERVICE ORIGINATE “55 PROJECT”:

Office Of Alumni Services And Resources Development proposes a “55 Project” to celebrate the 55th TKU Anniversary by promoting the recruitment in Lanyang campus, inviting more alumni back to TKU, and raising funds. According to Office Director, Min-nan Chen, the project consists of three targets: inviting 5500 alumni, raising 55,000,000 NT dollars, and holding international puppets exhibition.

Famous Calligraphers Display Publicly to Celebrate Lunar New Year

To promote “Calligraphy DIY,” the Ministry of Education (MOE) directed a “New Year Couplet Calligraphy Display Forum” on January 31, 2005. The activity attracted thousands of calligraphy lovers, including TKU president, Flora C. I. Chang.

OUTER WALL COMPLETED, PROCEEDING TO INTERIOR DECORATION:

During the winter vacation, the construction of Foreign Languages Building and the Gymnasium is undergone strenuously. For the former, the outer wall is completed, and the interior decoration is on the way. For the latter, the base construction is working as scheduled. Dean of Office of General Affairs, Ching-jen Hung indicates that the Gymnasium is expected to completed before the May of year 2006, so that the graduates could attend their recommencement ceremony there. The Foreign Languages Building, which is located between Chueh Sheng Memorial Library and Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, has undergone eight months of construction for the overall structure. Presently, the outlook of FLB is visible. According to the Construction and Repairs Section of Office of General Affairs, by the end of April 2005, we can get the warrant to use that building. Following the schedule, the furniture and other facilities will be installed by the end of May, and the faculty members of the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures as well as the six departmental offices will be moved into the new building after final exam in June.

APPLYING FOR NATIONAL SCIENCE COUNCIL PROJECTS: 64 % APPLICATION RATE

According to the statistics of Office of Research and Development, TKU totally submits 449 cases of application for National Science Council Projects in 2005 school year. The overall application rate is 64.4 %, and is 15 cases more than last year (434 cases). The results of applications will be announced between June and August.

PRESIDENT ENCOURAGES STAFFS TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE IN NEW YEAR JOINT GREETING CEREMONY

The Lunar New Year Joint Greeting Ceremony took place on February 15. More than one hundred TKU faculty members attended the meeting and enjoyed the oranges, apples, and “Won-won Shen-pei”, which are tokens of good luck. President Flora C. I. Chang wished everybody a good luck for the year of Rooster, and reminded the staffs the symbolic implication of chanticleer’s chanting and the hen’s laying eggs—“diligence with self-confidence and productivity.”

PRINCIPLES OF CLEARING THE DEMERIT RECORD TO BE PRACTICED SINCE THIS SEMESTER:

The newly announced “Principles for Clearing Demerit Record for TKU Students” has put into practice since this semester. According to Yan-yu Kao, Chief of Guidance Section, Office of Student Affairs, the principles are suitable for repentant students who offend “Rules of Disciplinary Sanctions” and suffer less than one major demerit. They can apply for this method to clear the infamous records.

15 MULTI-MEDIA CLASSROOMS ADDED THIS SEMESTER

To further invigorate the teaching environment, Instructional Technology Section, Office of Academic Affairs, added 15 new multi-media classrooms, adding up to a total number of 150. In addition, language-learning facilities in Taipei campus and Tamsui campus are upgraded with new International WE-LL300 Language Facility System.

STUDENT UNIONS’S HOME-TOWN SERVICES WON CHEERS FROM LOCAL ALUMNI
