TKU Mentors Awarded for Ongoing Service

To recognize experienced TKU teachers who have served as “mentors” to newly-arrived faculty, TKU President, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, recently handed out certificates of recognition during the 123rd TKU Administrative Conference on March 9. In total, 38 senior faculty members were rewarded for their efforts in the second semester of the 2010 academic year and the first semester of the 2011 academic year. The Section Chief of the Teacher Professional Development Section – part of the TKU Center for Learning and Teaching – Sung Hung-yen, expressed her gratitude to the mentoring teachers for their work in welcoming new employees into the TKU family.

TKU Scientists Receive $50 million Grant

A TKU research team from the Department of Physics recently gained an NT $50 million grant jointly provided by the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center and the National Science Council. The team consists of faculty from the TKU Physics Department, including professor Pong Way-Faung, professor Chang Ching-Lin, and associate professor Du Chao-Hung.

TOEIC Secrets Revealed

At 4:20pm on March 12, a speech on the TOEIC English Proficiency test was delivered by the General Manager of TOEIC Taiwan, Wu Shao Ming. Held at the Student Activity Center, Tamsui Campus, the speech drew around 1,200 students from the colleges of Liberal Arts and Education. The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Chiu jeong-Yeou, stated that the lecture would help raise students’ confidence when taking the TOEIC exam, and as a result, increase their competitiveness in the workplace.

TKU Business Faculty Visit Kinmen

In keeping with TKU policy of “diversity in student recruitment”, senior faculty from the TKU College of Business recently visited National Kinmen Senior High School, Kinmen Island.

CSU Representative Talks Exchange

California State University Sacramento is one of the more popular destinations for students considering overseas exchange. However, before leaving for their year of overseas study, many such students are not fully aware of what to expect. To help students gain a more detailed idea of what their year abroad will entail, the CSU International Program Director, Panlo Pinto, arrived at the TKU Lanyang Campus on 13th March. Mr. Pinto delivered a detailed speech on life at CSU and answered students’ questions regarding study and lifestyle at the Sacramento State campus.

Culture Week at Tamkang

This week is Culture Week at Tamkang, which means stall after stall selling delicious delicacies from cities and counties around Taiwan. A total of 15 regional student societies – including the TKU Kaohsiung Association, Pingtung Association, etc – have set up stall along Poster Street, offering a diverse range of foods, from Yilan Style Panna Cotta Rolls and chicken feet galantine (from Taichung), to tiramisu from Hualien and pudding from Tainan.

World Literature Draws Media Attention

From the moment we start learning to read, we immediately come into contact with world literature. Despite the wealth of translated literature in Taiwan, there is a shortage in high quality literature translations that offer comprehensive introductions, commentaries, and analyses.

UNC President Visits Tamkang

On March 14, 2012, the President of the University of North Carolina (UNC), Dr. Thomas W. Ross, visited the TKU Tamsui Campus. He was accompanied by his wife, Susan D. Ross, as well as the UNC Vice President for International Community and Economic Engagement, Dr. Leslie Boney.
