On October 1 at the TKU Student Activity Center, the Office of Military Education and Training held a special lecture as part of the “lifestyle education” lecture series currently being promoted by TKU.

Taking Turns to Care for a Classmate

Lucy Cui is a Department of French Master’s student from Shanghai. She suffers from a type of blood disease that means at any time she faces the danger of internal bleeding. Last month, after Lucy fell ill, her classmates organized themselves into teams of “carers” who took turns to go to the hospital and look after her. The Executive Director of the TKU Mainland Chinese Alumni Association, Tsai Bo-Yi, said that “it’s when you’re ill or in trouble that you find out who your real friends are. The concern displayed by both Taiwanese and Mainland Chinese classmates is really touching”.

Oktoberfest!
On the evening of Oct. 4 at the Chinese Palace-Style Classrooms, Tamsui Campus, TKU held a large-scale party to celebrate Oktoberfest.

On the evening of Oct. 4 at the Chinese Palace-Style Classrooms, Tamsui Campus, TKU held a large-scale party to celebrate Oktoberfest. The event attracted 300 guests and featured all-you-can-drink German beer, German snacks (sausages, cakes, pretzels), and traditional German-style music. It also featured a performance from the TKU Magic Club, a balloon-popping competition, a drinking competition, and a raffle.

On the afternoon of October 3rd, a large group of freshmen gathered on the bridge-style walkway that leads into the College of Liberal Arts. They were wearing high school uniforms as part of a department-organized activity known as annual uniform day.

Celebrating Five Decades of Spanish / Latino Culture
The Spanish and Latin American Ceramic Art Exhibition held at the Black Swan Exhibition Hall.

On October 2, the Department of Spanish held the “Spanish and Latin American Ceramic Art Exhibition”. The exhibition displayed ceramic art from the identically named cities of Cueuca in Spain and Ecuador.

The College of Business and Management Administrative Conference

On October 4 at the Ching Sheng International Conference Hall, the TKU College of Business and Management held its first administrative conference since the merger of the formerly separate colleges of Business and Management. Hosted by the College Dean, the conference was also attended by the President of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Gwo Hsing-Yu. The theme of the conference was AACSB Accreditation and the steps required to meet AACSB member criteria.

The Debut TV Appearance for the “Yue Zhuo”

The Yue Zhuo is Taiwan’s first ever solar-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). It was created by the UAV Research Team from the Tamkang Department of Aerospace Engineering. Recently, the TV program “Follow Me, Go” featured the solar-powered plane on one of its episodes. On the morning of October 5, the team from the popular children’s science show came to the Tamsui Campus to film the process that the UAV Research Team went through in assembling and testing the Yue Zhuo.

Three TKU Alumni Nominated for Prestigious Golden Horse Awards
The critically acclaimed film ‘Girlfriend Boyfriend’, directed by TKU alumnus Yang Ya-Che and starring alumna Kwai Lun-mei.

Three former Tamkang students were recently nominated for Taiwan’s equivalent of the Oscars, the Golden Horse Awards. In the 49th annual Golden Horse Awards, to be held on November 24, the movie “Girlfriend Boyfriend” has been nominated in seven award categories, including Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, and so on. Meanwhile, the documentary film Money and Honey was nominated in the category Best Documentary.
