The Microsoft PiL Innovative Teachers Competition
The TKU Department of Educational Technology recently joined up with Microsoft to organize the 2013 Microsoft Partners in Learning (PiL) Innovative Teachers Competition. During the competition, several teachers from the TKU department served as guest judges, while the Dean of the TKU College of Education, Dr. Tian-fu Chang (fourth from right), presented awards to winning entrants at the event Award Ceremony, held on March 12 at the NTU Hospital International Conference Center.

The 2013 International Student Cultural Exhibition
The TKU Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Wan-chin Tai and the Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Pei Wha Chi Lee, with foreign students at the International Student Cultural Exhibition.

This year’s International Student Cultural Exhibition showcases traditional garb from 16 countries, including the Japanese kimono, the Chinese Chipao, the Indian Sari, and many others. Starting on March 11, the exhibition will display the colors, foods, and fragrances of various countries, creating a small-scale international community at the Black Swan Exhibition Hall, Tamsui Campus.

Wu Cheng-hua is a fourth year student from the TKU Department of International Tourism Management. Like the rest of her family, her outlook in life is positive and optimistic.

The Chung Ling Chemistry Competition is viewed by many in Taiwan as the “Olympics of Chemistry”. It consistently attracts hundreds of students from the best high schools in Taiwan. This year, on March 9, a record total of 265 groups and 795 students took part.

An International Symposium on Taiwan-US Relations

On March 14 – 15, the TKU Graduate Institute of Asian Studies held a major international conference at the TKU Tamsui Campus. The conference centered on “Post-Presidential Election Relations between Asia and the US”. It featured opening remarks by Gu Jui-sheng, a senior member of the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Wan-chin Tai, the TKU Vice President for International Affairs.

TKU Forms New Partnership with Huaqiao University

Huaqiao University, Fujian, China, has become TKU’s 36th Mainland Chinese sister university. Huaqiao was established in 1960. Then, in 1983, it was listed as one of China’s “key development” universities.

Moral Character and Culture Week

Each year, around the middle of March, TKU students from various regions of Taiwan set up stalls at Poster Street and sell their local fare as part of Annual Culture Week. But this year is different. 2013 at Tamkang is the year of moral character. So aside from stall after stall of regional snacks – like cactus ice cream from Penghu Island – this year’s week-long festivities have received a new name: “Moral Character and Culture Week”.

The Quest for Quality Control Commences

Tamkang’s annual quality control competition has begun. On March 15, the Office of Quality Assurance and Audit held the “presentation phase” of the competition, in which the five competing teams – two of which are student teams – described their ideas for improving quality control at Tamkang.

A Seminar on Total Quality Management

This year’s TKU Total Quality Management (TQM) Seminar will be held at the Student Activity Center, Tamsui Campus, on Friday 22nd March. In line with TKU’s “Year of Moral Character” (2013), the seminar will explore how to lift TKU’s standards of service by building excellent moral character among staff members.
