Tamkang University’s Reporter Summer Research Conference Takes Place

【Reported by An-jia Chen, Tamkang Times】The Tamkang University’s Reporter Summer Research Conference took place on the 14th and 15th on Taipei Campus. President Flora Chia-I Chang personally handed out training certificates to newly employed correspondents. The certification criteria assessed for accuracy, error, and bias. The Vice President of Administration, Po-yuan Kao praised the reporters for their effort, understanding and adoption of diversified media. He expressed that his desire was to watch the new members grow and mature into outstanding employees. He stated, “This career gives you an opportunity to share the beauty of the world with others.”

The Department of Agriculture Holds Two Career Seminars

【Reported by Jing-zhuang, Tamkang Times】The Department of Architecture is holding two career seminars in the Black Swan Exhibition Building for three days. The 2013 Tamkang University Architecture Digital Design Career Seminar took place with an emphasis on cultivating computer skills. On the 18th another seminar was held in Yunlin county with the theme of farming lifestyle problems and improvement methods. Students were able to gather together in an exchange that would open their eyes into the future of their desired industry.

Tamkang University Has Finished ISO14064-1 Greenhouse Gas Protocol Inspection

【Tamkang Times 】Tamkang University’s standard preparation SO 14064-1 for July 2013 is completed. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol will be sent to the Taiwanese branch of British Standards Institution. It will first pass through 3 levels of investigation before it is finally approved and the ISO-1406-1 certification can be obtained.

Advanced Filter for Technical Academic Industry Alliance is Formed

【Reported by Qian-jing Chen, Tamkang Times】A professor from the Department of Chemistry, Kuo-jen Hwang established the Advanced Filter for the Technical Academic Industry Alliance on the 1st of last month. This is one of the projects that has been promoted by the Ministry of Science and Technology and is being carried out by Chemistry and Engineering Professors of Taiwan University, Kuo-Lun Tung and Da-ming Wang, Professor from the Zhong Yuan University, Qing-rong Zhuang, and Tamkang University’s Tung-wen Cheng. The core ideology of this alliance is to strengthen global industrial skills training within the academic curriculum.

Juei-hu Hsu is Appointed Position as Economic and Cultural Representative in Japan

【Reported by Tian-ran Xia, Tamkang Times】Alumni from the Department of Japanese, Juei-hu Hsu, is appointed a position in Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan. Jui-hu Hsu humbly stated, “Taking on this responsibility is quite frightening. Originally I only handled issues related to general affairs or administration, but this is cross-cultural professional business, farming and finance. In each of these categories they typically send a specialists to assist so I still have a lot to learn on the job. But most importantly I want to assist the ambassador and improve the relationship between Taiwan and Japan.

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Yu-pin Lin, Tamkang Times】The National Technology Gender Equality Committee held the Gender and Technology Summit in Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on the 17th. Professors from the University of Stanford, Londa Schielbinger and San Francisco State University, Sue V. Rosser, were invited to give lectures. Before the lecture began, President Flora Chia-I Chang gave a speech and introduction to the assembly. She also mentioned that the ratio for men to women faculty is 3:1 and that the ratio for men to women professors is 10:1 pointing out that Tamkang University still has room for improvement.

67 Teachers are Recognized for Their Service

【Reported by Yi-feng Lu, Xue-yi Wu, Wen-yuan Zheng, Tamkang Times】The Tamkang University Annual Teacher Appreciation event took place and professors received certifications of appreciation and bonuses for their services. Altogether there were 3 professors that received certificates for 40 years of service, 10 that received certificates for 30 years of service, 31 that received certificates for 20 years of service and 23 that received certificates for 10 years of service. A few of the teachers will even receive recognition from the Ministry of Education on the 27th.

【Reported by Meng-xi Xie, Tamkang Times】In order to raise the quality of services and achievements at Tamkang University, the Alumni Services and Resource Development Center held the “Workshop for University Leaders on Development and Alumni Engagement” on the 18th. Presidents and representatives from over 50 different universities were in attendance coming to a total of 100 people. Sister school, San Francisco State University (SFSU) gave a seminar on different methods of fundraising. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed, “In America they have very refined and detailed methods of raising money so here in Taiwan there is a lot that we can learn from them to improve our current models of fundraising.”
