【Reported by Jia-fu Gao, Tamkang Times】On December 17th in the B302A building the “Smiling Services Heart-felt Learning” video competition took place, awarding student service groups for their diligence and sacrifice. The judges reviewed a video compilation of specific student group activities via youtube and awarded the top three groups with cash prizes. In first place was the “Love is Simple in Cambodia” event that was awarded 3000 NT, in second place was the “Road to the Future” winning 2000 NT, and in third place was “Passing Traditions From Big Hands to Little Hands”, which was awarded 1000 NT.

【Reported by Jing-ya Su, Tamkang Times】On December 13th the Extra Curricular Activities Guidance Section held “The 2013 Tamkang University Five Tiger Forum-Extracurricular Activity Development” conference. In attendance was President Chia-I Chang, Dean of Student Affairs Chih-en Ko, Director of the Extra Curricular Activities Guidance Section, Su-kuan Chiang, Student Group Organizer, Wen-chih Huang and 110 academic employees from junior colleges all of over the nation.

English Poem Recital and Spelling Bee

【Reported by Xue-yi Wu, Tamkang Times】On December 19th the Department of English Language held the English Poem Recital Competition, where students from all over took the stage to showcase their English ability. Confident students raised the level of excitement by reciting lengthy and difficult poems. There were also two students that recited at the same time, making it feel like a colorful conversation. One Japanese exchange student recited a writing that was translated from Japanese into English. The content accompanied by a beautiful melody was both soothing and touching for all participants to witness.

Yu-ru Ding Receives Award For Her Outstanding Thesis

Last year fourth-year Chemistry student, Yu-ru Ding, received praise for her research in “The Natural Screening of Total Parenteral Nutrition.” This year she once again brought more exciting news to the Department of Chemistry when she entered Taiwan Testing and Quality Assurance Association’s “2013 Asian Professional Technical Food Examination and Evaluation Conference.” This year she received a commendation for her thesis that describes the procedure of utilizing zebrafish embryo as a supplement for total parenteral nutrition.

2013 Economic Academic Conference

On December 14th the Department of Industrial Economics held the annual “2013 Taiwan Economic Academic Conference” in the Ching-sheng International Building. In attendance was President of the council, Shin-kun Peng, Chairperson of the Department of Economics, Sheng-cheng Hu, Tamkang University’s professor of Industrial Economics, Chao-cheng Mai, and Dean of the College of Business and Management, Chien-liang Chiu. There were about thirty individuals who participated by handing in dissertations of research and observation of various types.

A Great Exchange of Ideas Takes Place During the Annual Insurance Conference

On December 14th the Department of Insurance held the “Seventh annual Cross-Strait Insurance Danger Management Academic Conference.” In attendance was Vice President of Academic Affairs, Gwo-hsing Yu, Professor of the Insurance Department, Yi-jen Hu, Head of the Financial Supervisory Commission Insurance Bureau, Yu-Chiong Tseng, Assistant Professor from China’s Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Xu Hua Zhang, Dean of the University of International Business and Economics, Sun Jian, and Assistant Dean of the Capital University of Economics and Business.

Tamkang University’s Alumni Score Exceptionally on Diplomat Test

【Reported by Jia-yun Cai, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s Alumni from the Graduate Institute of the Americas and the Graduate Institute of European Studies received outstanding test scores on the specialized exam for diplomatic personnel. Both Yen-cen Lin and Shih-hsiu Chen scored exceptionally high on the test for western immigration administration and Zheng-yuan Yang scored high marks in the section of portuguese language.

On December 20th the Department of General Affairs had a meeting explaining the diagrams and blueprints for the Shou Chien International Conference Center, hosted by Dean of the Department of General Affairs, Shiaw-shyan Luo. In attendance was Dean of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Dean of Student Affairs, Chih-en Ko, Dean of the Department of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, Director of the Department of Architecture, Jui-mao Huang and KHL Architect Wei-jyh Hsu.

【Reported by Yu-pin Lin, Tamkang Times】From December 15th to December 18th, President Chia-I Chang lead an expedition to Indonesia in order to strengthen ties between Tamkang University and two Indonesian sister schools, Gadjah Mada University and Muhammadiyah University. Accompanying President Chang was Vice President of International Affairs Wan-chin Tai, Dean of the College of Engineering, Chii-dong Ho, Dean of the College of Business and Management, Dr. Chien-liang Chiu, and Secretary of International Affairs, Martha Shu-min Kuo.
