Three Students From the Department of Business and Management Win First Place in National Finance Analysis Competition

【Reported by Ying-zhen Lu, Tamkang Times】The National Formosa University hosted the “2014 National Finance and Economic Analysis Competition.” Tamkang University was represented in the competition by a team that emphasized and pointed out the poor American policies on currency and the effect it has globally. Competing on this TKU team was fourth-year student from the Department of Finance, Kai-wen Zheng, fourth year student from the Department of International Business Management, Shan-ru Lin, and alumni from the Department of International Business Management, Bei-wen Zhou. They competed against 21 different teams from universities such as National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Cheng Kung University. They took first place in the Junior College competition and will be rewarded 30,000 NT at the award ceremony taking place on April 28th.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Holds Press Conference with Three International Correspondents

The members of the press conference group included Special Correspondent Ms. Bisera Fabrio, Photo Journalist Mr. Skledar Vjekoslav, Editor of Vienna Times, Mr. Klaus Huhold and International Editor, Ms. Zorana Bakovic.

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】On April 15th the Office of International Affairs and the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies invited former Vice President, Annette Lu Hsiu-lien for the “Tamkang University Strategic Forum- The Tough Road of Taiwanese Democracy” that attracted around 160 individuals. Annette Lu Hsiu-lien mentioned the Meili Island incident that occurred in 1979. The event had the effect of galvanizing the Taiwanese community into political actions and regarded as one of the events that eventually led to democracy in Taiwan. She made a comparison of the event to the current Sunflower movement taking place in Taiwan.

President Flora Chia-I Chang hosted the event with Vice President of Administration, Wan-chin Tai, Dean of the Office of International Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee, directors from various departments and 120 Mainland Chinese students.

30 International Educators Hold Discussion On Issues in Asia

【Reported by Xuan-ping Liu, Tamkang Times】On April 18th the Graduate Institute of Asian Studies held the “2014 New Asian Events” international conference in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Employee of the Embassy of Taiwan in Japan, Fu-chen Luo, Japanese Interchange Association Secretary, Kenichi Okada, Dean of the Graduate Institute of Asian Studies, Yao-ting Jen and professors from many different countries gathered to read a total of 12 dissertations.

Easter Egg Hunt on Lanyang Campus

The dormitories on Lanyang Campus and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature have decided to hold the “Crazy Easter Egg Hunt” for Easter on April 8th in the Academic Building. They hid 80 Easter eggs and 20 special eggs from the 2nd to the 5th floor. Individuals that found the special eggs were able to receive a great prize. Second-year student from the Department of Global Politics and Economics, Wan-ru Wu, stated, “It turns out they even hid a special egg on the person dressed up as an Easter bunny! Very tricky.”

【Reported by Jia-yun Cai, Tamkang Times】Fourth-year student from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Jing-sheng Huang, represented the Yi-lan Leadership Development Association in Washington to participate in the 25th annual “National Service-Learning Conference” held on the 9th of April. In the conference not only did Jing-sheng Huang give a detailed description of the GPS Landmark Mapping System, he also went into detail about the Taiwan Slackline Festival. In addition to the explanation of the different services, he also had a great and meaningful interaction during the international exchange.
