Three Universities Collaborate to Promote French Language

【Reported by Xuan-yu Zhou, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s Department of French is working together with both National Chengchi University and Chinese Culture University to hold the “Modern Day French Language Academic Applications Discussion in Diversified categories of Culture, Language, Literature and Media. This international discussion was held with the assistance of the French Institute in Taiwan to discuss a variety of multimedia learning methods and how they can be successfully utilized to promote French language. In attendance at the conference was close to a hundred participants.

【Reported by Yu-xuan Zhou, Tamkang Times】On May 14th President of Nagasaki University, Shigeru Katamine, accepted an invitation from President Flora Chia-I Chang to visit Tamkang University. He came with another honored guest Secretary from the Ministry of Education of the Department of International Cross-Strait Education, Guo-lung Luo. The Japanese President graced the visit with a lecture themed around Educational Reform in Nagasaki University. During the Lecture, President Shigeru Katamine introduced the university governing concepts and principles responsible for the development of Nagasaki University. He stated, “The students are not only supposed to absorb the information that we teach them, but they must also make it come alive in order to benefit the structure of our society.”

International and Disabled Students Get a Jumpstart on Career Opportunities

【Reported by Yi-wan Lu, Li-xuan Li, Tamkang Times 】On May 12th the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs will hold the overseas students career development discussion. Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Taipei City Alumni, Huan-xin Dong, was in attendance along with 50 international students. Dean of the Office of International Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee, expressed, “In order to give overseas students internships and employment opportunities, we’ve invited Huan-xin Dong to present an abundance of information regarding the career world.”

Mainland Chinese Students at TKU say Learning with Traditional Characters isn’t a Problem

There are over 300 Mainland Chinese Students at Tamkang University, which according to statistics it the second largest population of Chinese Mainland students in all the universities in Taiwan. At Tamkang University they are spread amongst 10 different departments: the Department of Finance, the Department of English, the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, the Department of Economics, the Department of Japanese Language, the Department of Mass Communication, the Department of Innovative Information and Technology, the Department of International Business Management, the Department of Business Administration, and the Department of Information and Library Science.

【Reported by Fang-jun Lin, Yi-mei Chen, Tamkang Times】Last week Learning Sharing and Teaching Week took place and on the second floor in the library participants shared reading awards and accomplishments. Eight reading experts of technology shared the achievements of Tamkang University for this semester. Dean of the library, Sheue-fang Song, expressed, “Reading is the most basic and essential part of education. In modern times technology is the most influential part of human lifestyle so reading combined with the benefits of technology is certain to give us many methods versetal learning.

【Reported by Qi Zhuo, Yi-mei Chen, Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】The Graduate Institute of European Studies and the Center for European Union Studies held the 2014 Europe Day on May 8th. In attendance was Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, and Deputy Head of European Economic and Trade Office,Viktoria Lövenberg. Wan-chin Tai expressed, “This university offers the only European doctoral program in Asia. This institute has produced many successful graduates and we are quite proud of all of their outstanding achievements. In the future I look forward to continuing our partnership and I’m sure it will continue to be fruitful.”

The College of Foreign Languages and Literature Collaborates with Inventec

【Reported by Jun-bo Zhuang, Tamkang Times】On May 8th the College of Foreign Languages and Literature (CFLL) held a discussion forum for “Industry-Academic Program with Inventec”. During the forum a representative group of Inventec presented their products and study services with the CFLL. Dean of CFLL, Hsi-Deh Wu, stated, “This cooperation is the embodiment of a future-oriented and information-oriented educational system. This unified project has the complete support of CFLL and I expect it will bring a promising future to the students involved.”

Tamkang Alumni are Satisfied with the Quality of Education they Received

【Reported by Xin-yu Wang, Tamkang Times】The Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development ran a survey for students that have graduated from Tamkang University to gauge their level of satisfaction with the quality of education that they have received. The survey shows that 67.1 percent of graduates are satisfied with the knowledge obtained at TKU, indicating that the large majority of students at Tamkang University are getting what they are looking for. It is estimated that 60.6 percent of students that have graduated from Tamkang University find employment within their first year of graduation.
