Tamkang University’s Research Sounding Rocket “Polaris” Successfully Launched
Polaris, the sounding rocket from Tamkang University, was successfully launched.

At 6:28 AM, August 5, Tamkang University successfully launched the third scientific sounding rocket “Polaris” at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)’s Short-Term Research Sounding Rocket Launch Site in Xuhai, Pingtung. This launch marks the 7th mission at the launch site, with the Tamkang University team participating in 3 of these missions. The university places great importance on this mission, with Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu and former Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Chao-Kang Feng, both visiting the site to offer their support.

In the "2024 Impact Rankings" released by the UK’s Times Higher Education (THE) on June 13, Tamkang University ranked 53rd globally in SDG7 "Affordable and Clean Energy," making it the top-ranked private university in Taiwan. The achievement of entering the global top 100 in SDG7 is a result of our university's recent efforts to pursue the dual transformation towards "Net-Zero" and "Digital" under the strategic development goal of "AI + SDGs = ∞".

The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs held the “2024 Academic Year Student Study Abroad Flag Presentation Ceremony” on June 25 at 2:30 PM in the Activity Center. A total of 391 students from 11 departments will be studying abroad as exchange students in 25 countries and 111 schools. The event was attended by President Huan-Chao Keh, Vice President for Administrative Affairs Chun-Hung Lin, Vice President for Academic Affairs Hui-Huang Hsu, first-level supervisors of various academic units, department chairs of the students going abroad, 260 students going abroad, and over 70 parents. Distinguished guests such as Chu-Lien Yen, Minister on Home Assignment from the Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Eduardo Euba Aldape, Director General of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Kouta Ouchi, Director of the Cultural Affairs and Public Relations Department, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association; and Ms. Aurélie Jobert, French Language and Publishing Affairs Officer of the French Office in Taipei (Bureau Français de Taipei), also attended to offer their encouragement and blessings.

2024-2025 Global Best Universities: Tamkang's Chemistry Discipline Ranked in the Global Top 100 for 3 Indicators

U.S. News & World Report recently announced the 2024-2025 Best Global Universities Rankings. Tamkang University performed remarkably well in chemistry, with 3 indicators ranking in the global top 100: “Normalized Citation Impact” ranked 15th globally; “Percentage of Papers Among the Top 1% Most Cited” ranked 25th globally; and “International Collaboration - Relative to Country” ranked 59th globally. The global ranking for the chemistry discipline is 480th, a significant jump of 199 places from last year's 679th. In addition to chemistry, the engineering discipline also performed well, ranking 987th globally.

Tamkang University's Chemistry Department alumnus, Assistant Professor Yung-Ting Lee from the National Taipei University of Technology (top right), along with our Physics Department professors Hung-Chung Hsueh and Associate Professor Chi-Cheng Lee, co-authored an academic paper that was featured on the cover of the internationally renowned American journal ACS Materials Letters.

Physics Department Professor Hung-Chung Hsueh and Associate Professor Chi-Cheng Lee, along with Tamkang University's Chemistry Department alumnus Yung-Ting Lee, collaborated with scholars from National Taipei University of Technology, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chung Hsing University, and the University of Tokyo to complete the academic paper titled "Revealing the Charge Density Wave Caused by Peierls Instability in Two-Dimensional NbSe2." This paper was featured on the cover of the internationally renowned journal ACS Materials Letters, published by the American Chemical Society. ACS Materials Letters is considered a top-tier journal in the field of materials science, with a 5-year impact factor of 10.2, ranking in the top 12% in the multidisciplinary materials science category.

48 Students from Business and Management College Earn Sustainability Certification; Management Sciences Department Completes Taiwan's First Departmental Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report
The Department of Management Sciences has completed Taiwan's first "Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report" specifically dedicated to a university department.

The Department of Management Sciences at Tamkang University has completed Taiwan's first university department-specific "2023 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report" and has also trained 48 students from the College of Business and Management to earn internationally recognized certifications. Our university, aligning with global trends, has established a forward-looking vision and has received trademark registration for "AI + SDGs = ∞" from the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Moreover, this vision will gradually be implemented as a learning outcomes indicator for students.

The opening ceremony was held at the Chang Yeo Lan Hall of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, where everyone happily took group photos.

“The Symposium of Leaders in Student's Association of Tamkang University is crucial to Tamkang’s culture. Since its inception in 1966, the Symposium of Leaders in Student's Association of Tamkang University has adhered to the mission of “doing our best to create a vision,” embodying the spirit of passing on knowledge and ensuring that club experiences are sustainably preserved.” President Huan-Chao Keh, who has attended the opening ceremony for over 30 consecutive years, encouraged students to participate in various club activities to develop the soft skills needed by enterprises. He urged clubs to keep up with the times while passing on their experiences and organizing activities to align with Tamkang University’s core development goal, “AI+SDGs=∞,” to implement sustainable development and enhance club management efficiency through AI.

English Department Alumnus Howard Hao-Chih Huang Appointed as Foil Referee for Fencing at the Paris Olympics
English Department alumnus Howard Hao-Chih Huang has been appointed as a foil referee for the fencing events at the Paris Olympics. The picture shows him serving as a referee at the Budapest International Fencing Competition.

The 2024 Paris Olympics were held from July 26 to August 11. Howard Hao-Chih Huang, an alumnus of the English Department at Tamkang University, proudly represented our country as a foil referee in the fencing events. This marks the first time a national fencing referee has been selected for the Olympics. The Chinese Taipei Fencing Association has hailed Huang as a “Beacon of Taiwan.”

AIT Commends Tamkang's Teaching Excellence: Chinese Language Center Becomes Largest U.S. Oversease Chinese Program Partner
The Chinese Language Center of Tamkang University's Continuing Education Office has launched Chinese language courses. This summer, the Chinese Language Center of the Office of Continuing Education at Tamkang University offered various Chinese language courses. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense, the program was designed to promote international exchanges by providing tailored Chinese language courses. On the evening of July 11, a grand joint welcome reception was held for the 133 American youths studying at Tamkang University at the Fullon Hotel Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf. On July 16, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) invited them for a visit and exchange, accompanied by Vice President for International Affairs Hsiao-Chuan Chen and Dean of International Affairs Chien-Mu Yeh. AIT recognized the success of Tamkang University's Chinese language programs.
