Professor Ku-Jun Lin Experiences the Appeal of AI-Integrated Teaching During Summer EMI Teacher Training in the U.S.
After completing the Oral Communication course, Dr. Ku-Jun Lin (right) received a small gift — a wooden robot from the University of Texas Business School.

Professor Ku-Jun Lin from the Department of Accounting was selected to join 21 higher education faculty members from various fields across Taiwan to participate in the "EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) Higher Education Training," co-organized by the National Taiwan Normal University entrusted by the Ministry of Education and the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) in the United States. During the two-week in-person course, Dr. Lin experienced the appeal of integrating "generative AI" into teaching and enthusiastically remarked, "This aligns perfectly with Tamkang University's AI + SDGs = ∞ development strategy."

Opening Ceremony for New Graduate and Undergraduate Students of the 2024 Academic Year

The opening ceremony and orientation for new undergraduate and graduate students for the 2024 academic year were held on September 5th and 6th on the 7th floor of the Shao-Mo Memorial Gymnasium. Following tradition, President Huan-Chao Keh, 3 vice presidents, and supervisors of relevant academic and administrative units led the new students up the 132 steps of the Slope of Overcoming Difficulty. This climb symbolized the collective effort of teachers and students to "overcome difficulties and strive for excellence," embodying the school’s motto of simplicity and perseverance.

President Commends Rocket Team Faculty and Students, Awards Million-NTD Prize to Encourage Continued Innovation

To encourage the Aerospace Department’s rocket team for their successful execution of the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) sounding rocket project with 3 successful rocket launches within 2 years, President Huan-Chao Keh specially invited the team’s faculty and students for a meeting on August 15th. In addition to commending their hard work and contributions, he announced that starting this year, the team will receive NT$1 million in annual R&D funding and student rewards, similar to the Tamkang Robotics Team, which has won world championships for consecutive years. He also instructed the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Chun-Hung Lin, to assist in planning a suitable space as an aerospace research and development base.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department’s robotics research team from Tamkang University made history by claiming their 13th world title in the "HuroCup" small humanoid robot category at the 2024 FIRA RoboWorld Cup and Summit, held from August 5 to 9 in São Luís, Brazil. Participating in 9 of the 10 decathlon events, the team won gold in every event, achieving an unprecedented record of winning all entered categories for the first time in the team's competition history.

Tamkang University’s 2024 9th World Alumni Biennial Conference was held from August 30 to September 1 at the Westin Oaks Hotel, Houston. The event invited Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang, President Huan-Chao Keh, Vice Presidents Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, Dr. Jun-Hong Lin, Dr. Hsiao-Chuan Chen, College of Business and Management Dean Li-Ren Yang, and Alumni Services and Resource Development Executive Director Chun-Yang Perng, who gathered with alumni from around the world. Taiwanese officials, including Houston Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Director-General Yvonne Yi-Fang Hsiao and Director of the Houston Overseas Chinese Education Center Ying-Rong Wang, were also invited and praised Tamkang alumni’s unity and achievements in Houston.

The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs held a welcome event for new international students for the 2024 academic year, warmly welcoming them into the Tamkang family.

On the morning of September 4, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs held the "2024 Academic Year New International Students Welcome Ceremony" at the Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall in the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. Around 360 international students from various parts of the world attended the event.

e-Calligraphy Experience: A New Departure Activity at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2
Starting from September 4th, the e-Calligraphy experience in the departure area of Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2 has attracted many travelers, who stop to admire the works and participate in the experience.

The “e-Calligraphy System” takes off at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2! The "e-Calligraphy Experience: The Art of Writing with Technology, Showcasing the Beauty of Words," co-hosted by Tamkang University’s Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and Tasa Meng Duty-Free Shop, launched on September 4th near Gate D5 in the departure area of Terminal 2 at Taoyuan International Airport. In addition to introducing e-Calligraphy, passengers can use iPads on-site to experience the "e-Calligraphy System," practicing with 4 built-in calligraphy templates and writing messages that reflect their travel sentiments and well-wishes. Participants can save their work by scanning a QR code or taking a screenshot, allowing them to enjoy the elegance of e-Calligraphy during their waiting time before departure.

Shiu-Ling Huang Donates 20 Million to Establish RMi Scholarship: First Recipients, Including Fang-Yu Chang, Each Awarded 200,000

Shiu-Ling Huang, an alumna of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance and founder of Risk Management, Insurance & Finance magazine, donated NT$20 million to establish the “RMi Scholarship" as a way to give back to her alma mater and nurture outstanding insurance professionals. The first scholarships were awarded on August 5th at the "Faith, Hope & Love Awards of Insurance" ceremony, founded by Shiu-Ling Huang. Former Department Chair Dr. Jyun-Ji Tien presented the scholarships to the following recipients: Yen-Yu Yang (sophomore), Yi-Ting Shen (junior), Yu-Chen Wu (senior), Si-En Chen (first-year master's), and Fang-Yu Chang (first-year master's). Each received NT$200,000 in prize money and a certificate. A total of NT$1 million was awarded that day, with both Si-En Chen and Fang-Yu Chang continuing their master's studies.

TKU Achieves Significant Research Results in Taiwan-Netherlands Photon Quantum Computing Alliance: Year of Innovation and Cultural Exchange Promoted Strongly
In the Taiwan-Netherlands Photon Quantum Computing Alliance, the alliance's lead from Tamkang University, Assistant Professor Jun-Yi Wu of the Department of Physics, presented significant research achievements at the annual meeting.

In 2024, marking 400 years of Taiwan-Netherlands exchanges, the Netherlands Office Taipei (NLOT) is hosting the Taiwan-Netherlands Year of Innovation and Culture. On the homepage of the NLOT official website, special mention is made of the Taiwan-Netherlands "Photon Quantum Computing Alliance," a collaboration between Tamkang University's Assistant Professor Jun-Yi Wu from the Department of Physics and Executive Director of the Advanced Quantum Computing Research Center, and the University of Twente (UT) in the Netherlands. This alliance has been selected as a key promotion project, highlighting that Tamkang University's quantum computing research has become a sought-after partner on the international stage.

The winners of the Research Creativity Award in the 2023 National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Research Grant for College Students were recently announced, with Tamkang University’s Shao-Hua Hu (Physics), Chiao-Chi Tsai (Accounting), and Xiang-En Wang (English) winning awards for their innovative research achievements. This prestigious award is given by NSTC to college students whose research results are evaluated as excellent and creative. Only 200 students are selected annually, making this a highly valued recognition of university students' innovation and research capabilities.
