APPLICATION NOW OPEN FOR TRACK AND FIELD MEET ON THE 53rd FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

The Office of Physical Education will hold track and field events in the Stadium on November 8 to celebrate the 53rd Founding Anniversary of Tamkang University.

APPLICATION FOR EXCHANGE STUDENT PROGRAM 2003-2004 STARTS SOON

The Office of International Exchange and International Education has announced the application procedures for the exchange student program of academic year 2003-2004. A total of twenty-nine vacancies are offered by seventeen of TKU’s sister universities in the US, Canada, Australia, Korea, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Austria. Sophomores, juniors of the College of Technology, and students of master programs are eligible to apply. This program does not include exchange with sister universities in Japan.

MOE TO INSPECT NEWLY CONTRACTED LAND FOR LANYANG CAMPUS

After the joint inspection last Tuesday (Oct. 7), officials of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, EPA, Yilan County Government and Jiaushi local Government agreed with the purchase of land for TKU Lanyang Campus. They also decided to build a second connecting route to the main traffic arterial. The building of the route is contracted to start in November 2003.

NATIONAL APPLIED ECONOMICS CONFERENCE HELD TO BOOST ECONOMICS

TKU's Economics Department will host The Second National Conference on Applied Economics on the Taipei Campus, Friday, October 17, said Chairperson Dr. Huang Tai-hsin, who indicated that more than eighty scholars and experts were invited to contribute their expertise and wisdom not only to upgrade economics scholarship in Taiwan but also, more importantly, to help the government find feasible options for current economics issues.

COL. OF LIBERAL ARTS TO HOLD TWO INTERN’L CONF.

The Graduate Institute of Chinese Linguistics and Documentation, College of Liberal Arts, will co-host the Second Tamkang Global Sister Universities Conference on Chinese Linguistics and Culture at Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on October 15 and 16 (Wednesday and Thursday). Scholars from Tamkang’s sister universities in the US, Japan, Korea, and Spain are to present papers, and active participation and discussion can be expected.

TKU TENNIS TEAM WINS THE HOST NTU TEAM: CHAMPION IN THE FIRST ADIDAS CUP CAMPUS TENNIS GAME

The TKU tennis team was invited to join the first “Adidas Cup Campus Tennis Invitational Games”. With dazzling performances, the TKU team defeated many competitors including the host team of National Taiwan University and won the championship.

THE ISO14001 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TO BE INSPECTED

The ISO14001 Environmental Management System of TKU will be inspected at nine o’clock this morning (Oct 13, 2003). Two inspectors of SGS Taiwan, Lu Ching-hsing and Hsieh Chen-cheng, will inspect the TKU campus for two days. In the pre-inspection, SGS Taiwan suggested 24 entries for improvement. The conformance with standards and implementation of environmental policies will be the present testing points. Our school will be awarded the certification of ISO 14001 before the 53rd anniversary if we conform to these environmental performance criteria.

DONATION TO TKU OVER TWO BILLION NT DOLLARS

By the end of September, the total amount of donations has reached over two billion NT dollars, according to Office of Alumni Services and Recourses Development (OASRD). TKU president Dr. Horng-jinh Chang, who is also the chairman of Fund Raising Committee, indicated that this amount was precious, especially in such an environment of economic recession. He appreciated all his colleagues' efforts at fund raising; he also paid his respect to all the donators, hoping that they will continue to support TKU.

TKU ROBOT SOCCER TEAM “FORERUNNER” WON THE FIRA ROBOSOT CHAMPIONSHIP

TKU voice-controlled robot soccer team “Forerunner,” created by the Electrical Engineering Department, won the FIRA (Federation of International Robot-soccer Association) first place in the robosot category by 3-2 victory over Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) after a two-hour deadlock this month. TKU achieved international fame by winning this title.
