The Chinese Language Center Sets Sights on Japan

【Yi-mei Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】The Division of Continuing Education’s Chinese Language Center has developed 4 programs this year with the intent of promoting Chinese language and literature. The division has received ample support on their endeavour from the university in the form of subsidies and fund raising events. It’s estimated that the Division of Continuing Education has received around 8,000,000 NT in subsidies.

Academic and Administration Revolution Conference Outlines Plan for Next Few Years

【Yu-xuan Zhou, Jin-yu Cai, Xin-yu Wang, Tamsui Campus Report】Every prestige university continually utilizes a blueprint or outline of its future objectives in order to stay on the path of success. Detailed, future planning has become especially crucial in Taiwan due to the impact of the baby-bust generation - a drop in the birth rate - that is currently taking its toll in the higher-learning academic world. This year’s Academic and Administration Revolution Conference emphasized the plan of development from 2015-16 to 2017-18 in a forum of six different parts, titled, “The Leap in Diverse Innovation- Spirit, Determination and Competitive Ability.”

High Table Dinner at Lanyang
Lanyang held a High Table Dinner, mimicking the tradition of Cambridge university on Oct. 20. In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, Director of Lanyang Campus, Jyh-horng Lin, Dean of the Office of Academic Affairs, Teng-wen Cheng and various department heads, totalling to around 400 teachers and students. Lan Yang Campus held the High Table Dinner on Oct. 20, an event that closely resembles the tradition of the Cambridge University dormitory. The banquet took place at 6:30pm and was aimed at creating a positive exchange between students and teachers. There was a display of achievements related to the realm of higher education, which served to motivate students and teachers alike to continue to pursue the spirit of excellence. Not only did the High Table Dinner stimulate the ideas of new students, it also gave participants a taste of a formal western-style dining affair while creating new academic bonds.

【Yu-xiang Sun, Tamsui Campus Report】The Resource Center for Visually Impaired (RCVI) and Technology Development Association for the Disabled in Taiwan (TDAD), jointly held the, “Career in Motion- Employed Visually Impaired Discussion” on Oct. 20. The event was an opportunity for disabled professionals to share their experience, ideas and resources with the public. In attendance were experts of disabled facilities including Director of the RCVI, Jason Zhang, Renowned Interpreter, Jia-hao Chang, and President of TDAD, Po-jung Lin. The experts introduced the various functions, computer programs, mobile apps and devices designed for the visually impaired.

【Yi-feng Lu, Special Report 】On 2014 a new position as the General Manager at Microsoft in Taiwan was filled by Tamkang University Alumni, Steven Shaw. Steven Shaw is TKU alumni of the Department of Water Welfare Engineering (currently known as Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering) and has had a very successful career that continues to prosper. After being appointed General Manager at Microsoft, Shaw agreed to an interview to encourage students of his alma-mater.

【Jin-yu Cai, Tamsui Campus Report】Tamkang University has once again been assessed and awarded the “Good Conduct and Unique Education Award by the Ministry of Education for the third consecutive year. On Oct. 21st the 2015-16 Good Conduct and Unique Education Award Celebratory Event took place in the National Taiwan Library. The event was lead by Director of the Ministry of Education, Sehwa Wu, who presented the award to Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, Yu-jun Yeh. Yu-jun Yeh received the award on behalf of Tamkang University.
