Sharing Experience is Bliss

【Yi-mei Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】Last week, people in white uniforms with QR codes moved back and forth on campus, but there wasn’t an accident. It was a part of the Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section’s, “Blissful Experience Sharing,” event that took place from Oct. 13-15 on Hai Bao Street. Eight tents were set up by alumni of different departments and 16 student clubs. The different groups told stories of their experiences in public service, encouraging new students to become part of the many caregiving programs.

Ministry of Science and Technologies Makes Record of TKU Periodicals

【Ji-yu Cai, Ya-han Cao, Tamsui Campus Report】Four of Tamkang University’s periodicals have been evaluated by the Ministry of Science and Technologies’ Humanity, Social and Science research center and recorded in the Taiwanese Humanities and Social Science Core Citation Index. These periodicals include the Tamkang Journal of Chinese Literature, Tamkang Review and Journal of Educational Media & Library Sciences.

TKU Meets TED

【Tamkang Times】On Oct. 31 TKU will be approved for the TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) assembly and will begin holding 2015 TKUxTED yearly events in the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center. The first assembly will be themed, “A Different Way of Thinking,” and the two curators of the program are Planning Assistant of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, Vincent Lu, and second-year student of the Department of English, Zi-heng Hong.

【Xin-yu Wang, Tamsui Campus Report】Last week students of Tamkang University’s E-learning Executive Master’s Program in Asia-Pacific Studies were able to meet with their teachers and experience many of Taiwan’s unique delicacies. The official opening ceremony took place on Oct. 12, and the new students arrived to Ching-sheng International Conference Hall to receive courses, welcomed to a banquet, officially beginning the 3rd year of the of the program. Students came from Honduras, Panama, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Colombia and El Salvador, totalling to 21 first-year students and 10 second-year students. In attendance was Director of the Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs (OICSA), Pei-wha Chilee, Director of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Hsiao-chuan Chen, and Director of the College of International Studies, Kao-cheng Wang.

【Wan-xuan Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】On Oct. 8 the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICSA) calculated that there were 611 new international students and 83 overseas exchange students. This brings the total number of students from abroad to 1859 altogether. On Oct. 14 the OICSA held a welcoming party for new overseas students in the Student Activity Center at 5pm. Aside from Director of OICSA, Pei-wha Chilee, and Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, making an appearance, there were also Department heads of Science, Literary Arts, Engineering, Business and Management and Foreign Languages and Literature, totalling to 400 people.
