THE 10TH TKU PRESIDENT, DR. C. I. CHANG, CONTINUE TO LEAD TKU TOWARD ANOTHER CURVE

The term of Dr. C. I. Chang’s 9th TKU presidency ended on July 31, 2010. The 10th Board of Trustees elected the 10th TKU President at its 7th meeting, in which Dr. C. I. Chang was unanimously reelected as the 10th TKU president. The board meeting also elected the trustee members of the 11th Board of Trustees. Eight of nine members continue to be the trustees, including Ms. Polly S. Chang, Yea-hong Chen, Charles C. Lin, Hong-shang Hong, Steve Lee, Gregory K. H. Wang, Kun-yen Lee, John C. H. Yang. Mr. Ching-nan Chen was newly elected to the board.

8780 NEW TKU MEMBERS TO REACH OVERCOMING DIFFICULTY SLOPE, IN SEPTEMBER; VARIOUS ACTIVITIES LAUNCHED TO WELCOME FRESHMEN

The 2010 academic year announcement of the result of joint college exam indicates that there are 7707 freshmen going to enter TKU, including 1580 graduate students, 73 foreign students and 294 overseas Chinese students. Adding the freshmen with 1073 transferred students, there will be totally 8780 new students joining the big family. As for the four departments in Lanyang Campus, it recruits 250 new students, among which 65 percents, 162 persons, are received through recommendation.

STUDENTS OF DEPT. OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT WON TWO BIG PRIZES IN CROSS-STRAIT IT PROJECT COMPETITION

Chang Hsiao-mei and Lin Yi-hui, of Department of Information Management, led by their professor, Dr Liang En-hui, went with students from Chengchi University and Central University as R.O.C representative in the championship of the “2010 Amway Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition,” hosted by Information Management Association of R.O.C., held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. TKU students won the Golden Medal and the Prize of Best Response with their work, “Animal Kingdom: Touch Information System for Children,” beating 51 teams from China, Macau, and Hong Kong.

ALUMNI IN PANAMA WELCOME TKU’S INTERNATIONAL YOUTH AMBASSADORS WITH BANQUET

To go with the “International Youth Ambassadors Communication Project” of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TKU’s representatives, led by Dr. Lin Hui-ing of Dept. of Spanish, went to Panama for two weeks of cultural and academic communication. Association of TKU Alumni in Panama held banquet to welcome the TKU representatives, and invited R. O. C Ambassador in Panama, Mr. Ko Sheng-yao, to inform the students with cultural tips.

242 YOUNG OVERSEAS COMPATRIOTS PARTICIPATED IN CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE STUDYING CAMP AND ENJOY FORMOSAN CULTURE

Office of Continuing Education has organized the “2010 Chinese Language and Culture Studying Camp for Overseas Chinese Youth” commissioned by Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, R.O.C., between July 6 and August 16, in which 242 young expatriates from USA, France, Canada, Germany, and other countries joined the program to experience the unusual Formosan cultures.

FLAG-GIVING CEREMONY FOR TKU SUMMER SOCIAL SERVICE TEAMS

Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section, Office of Student Affairs, had held a “Flag-giving Ceremony and Intense Drilling Meeting for Summer Social Services” on June 28, at B713, Business and Management Building. Totally 23 TKU service teams, including High Tension, Student Association of Dept. of Spanish, and about 190 members, would do summer social services in various Taiwan towns and foreign countries in Cambodia and Latin America.

FORUMS FOR FRESHMEN’S PARENTS WERE HELD ISLAND-WIDE

Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development has held totally 11 forums for freshmen’s parents, between August 13 and 22, at Penghu, Kinmen, and around Taiwan. In every meeting, experienced professors introduced TKU’s educational objectives and the prospect of TKU graduates. Various high school alumni associations in Tamkang also share their experience of living and studying in Tamkang with the participants.
